Whether you’re into history, music, or just chilling with a glass of wine on a terrace, Balatonfüred’s calendar delivers non-stop excitement through summer.
April 3-10 Highlights
Dive in early with Dr. Réka Szabó’s free linguistics talk on “Jókai (Mór Jókai) and the Language of the Reform Era” at Arácsi Community House on April 8 at 6 p.m. The next day, April 9, join a discussion titled “Heritage” with Kossuth Prize- and József Attila (Attila József) Prize-winning poet Katalin Mezey. April 10 celebrates Hungarian Poetry Day with sung verses, plus a 3 p.m. memorial for Sándor Kőrösi Csoma (Alexander Csoma de Kőrös) at the Tagore Promenade statue (rainy-day venue: Kisfaludy Gallery). Organized by Balatonfüred Council and Kovászna Sister City Association, it features wreath-laying, a speech by council representative István Böröcz (Tourism Association president), and performances by the Kék Balaton Folk Choir led by Mária Bónyai. The 19th Balatonfüred Tuning Meet revs up cars on April 19, while April 18-19 hosts the 8th Hungarian Hairdressing Championships at Balaton Leisure Center—a free two-day beauty showdown for women’s and men’s hair (wedding styles, creative colors, braids, barber cuts), makeup (occasion/wedding), and nails (gel polish, extensions). Hosted by master hairdresser László Hajas, it’s a fierce battle for 2026 champions, organized by MFKK Association and the council. Boat trips continue April 18-19. On April 29 at 7 p.m., free theater production “In Our Street” by Lili Fabacsovics at Arácsi Community House: a wedding crash by a mysterious stranger sparks comedy with bittersweet Hungarian humor.
