Debrecen’s Déri Museum kicks off 2026 with permanent exhibitions, educational programs, rotating shows, and a variety of events every day except Mondays from 10am to 6pm. Families and people of all ages can dive into fun, relaxation, and entertainment at Déri Square (Déri tér) 1, 4026 Debrecen. April Kickoff
On April 8 (Wednesday), historian and curator Katalin Váradi leads a free tour: “The Cívis City Through Centuries of Storms.” The next day, April 9, join her for a city history walk: “Inner City Stroll Tracing the Cívis—Survival and Renewal.” April 10 brings archaeologist László D. Szabó’s free slide show on “Debrecen’s St. Andrew’s Church and Franciscan Monastery Excavations.” April 11 features two free events: the opening of the “Memory Pictures of Millennium Debrecen” watercolor exhibit for Debrecen City Day, plus chief curator Szilveszter Mező’s tour “Where Hungarian Horticulture and Nature Conservation’s Cradle Rocked.” April 17 marks World Heritage Day with a free tribute: ““I Just Worked…” Remembering Lajos Zoltai.”
Literary and Earth Day Vibes
On April 21, the literary chat series “The Fine Writer Reads” spotlights poet and writer Krisztina Tóth with literary historian Norbert Baranyai—free. On April 22 for Earth Day, “Lonely Planet” programs include Szilveszter Mező’s book launch “Scorching Réunion – Tropical Diary,” introduced by retired chief curator and archaeologist Zsigmond Hajdú; his slide show “Under the Southern Cross: Camera on a Mysterious South Seas Island of Skinny Dodos and Fat Pigeons”; and the 30-minute documentary “Réunion – Land of Fire and Water” by István Fekete and Mező from 2003 Nyíregyháza City TV—all free.
May Highlights
On May 6, literary chats continue with writer Attila Ménes and curator Barnabás Pótor—free. On May 14, Szilveszter Mező’s slide adventure “La Plata, the ‘Silver Chalice’: Backpacking by South America’s Record River Mouth in Uruguay and Argentina”—tickets 1000 HUF ($3) per person.
