Guided Castle Walks – Stories from the City’s Heart
Discover the Castle District’s unique vibe and millennium-spanning history on thematic guided walks—a weekend favorite starting at 11:30, 14:00, and 16:00. Access spots off-limits to solo visitors: Archbishop’s Palace with its Baroque interiors, revamped spaces, and rare artifacts; Gizella Chapel, the quarter’s oldest and quietest sacred spot with surviving medieval fresco fragments; St. Michael’s Cathedral and its crypt, Veszprém’s defining building that reveals its authentic history through its basilica origins and medieval details; St. George’s Chapel, an ancient site in the castle core open only on these tours. Walks start from Biró–Giczey House; check the event calendar for exact times and updates. Special slots include April 3–12 at 10:30, 14:00, 16:00; April 18–19 at the same times; April 25 at 16:00; April 26 at 10:00 and 16:00.
Free Exhibitions at Biró–Giczey House
All exhibitions are free during opening hours. “Bogáncs és liliom – Magdolnák virágai” (Thistle and Lily – Magdalene’s Flowers), winner of the 2025 Exhibit of the Year award, showcases Mary Magdalene through artifacts, engravings, contemporary reflections, and the thoughts of Blessed Bódi Mária Magdalene. “Kamrakiállítás” (Chamber Exhibit) displays Baroque items, liturgical pieces, and over 100-year-old photos from the Cathedral’s past. “Nem káptalan a fejem” (Not a Chapter on My Head), an interactive display that playfully explains canons and how Veszprém’s chapter functioned. The archaeology exhibition uses stunning installations to trace Castle Hill’s evolving settlement history and finds.
