A full year of concerts, exhibitions, guided walks, family programs, themed tours, talks, feast-day celebrations, and church events unfolds across multiple venues in Veszprém. The calendar opens with an organ series and architectural nights, then moves into Gizella Day highlights and youth meetups, before circling back with autumn and Advent concerts. Accommodation and food and drink options are available near the listed venues, and organizers reserve the right to change dates and programs.

Opening Weekend: Organ Evenings and Architectural Walks

The Várhegyi Organ Evenings series kicks off on Saturday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. with guest organist András Gábor Virágh, organist of Budapest’s St. Stephen’s Basilica. The program leans into the organ’s spiritual power, amplified by choral depth: the Veszprém City Mixed Choir (Veszprém Város Vegyeskara) arrives 50 strong under conductor Ágnes Erdélyi. All are warmly welcomed.

On April 25–26, architects lead special Castle Quarter walks for the 2nd Festival of Architecture and the Night of Architecture. Visitors can step into standout buildings and gardens usually closed to the public: St. Michael’s Cathedral and its crypt, St. George’s Chapel, the Grand Seminary, the Archbishop’s Palace, the 13th-century Gothic Gizella Chapel, and the recently opened Eastern Gardens.

May: Faith Walks and Gizella Day

On Friday, May 1, the Faith Route I unfolds in Veszprém Castle with a guided walk starting at 3:00 p.m., led by Fr. István Takáts, Vicar General. It’s a grounded route through faith and place, meant to be walked and lived.

Thursday, May 7, at 7:00 p.m., St. Michael’s Cathedral hosts the Gizella Day festive concert with organist András Lakner Bognár, the second stop in the Várhegyi Organ Evenings cycle. Expect cathedral acoustics doing what they do best: lifting the roof and the mood.

On Friday, May 8, at 7:00 p.m., a one-hour Gizella Day prayer gathering brings an intimate atmosphere to the Gizella Chapel. Space is limited, advance registration is required, and there’s no possibility of bringing seating due to the chapel’s layout—participants should be ready to stand for the full hour.

Saturday, May 9, features Game, Community, Faith, a youth catechism meetup in Veszprém for Blessed Gizella’s feast. After registration and a shared Mass, participants sit down to a common lunch before diving into a day of games, challenges, crafts, sports, and spiritual reflection. Look for altar server missions, the Magdi Tour, lively quizzes, and Caritas-themed sensitivity workshops. The celebration closes with an awards ceremony and final blessing. The aim is simple: not just learning about faith, but living it together with joy. Sign up via catechists: “Come, test yourself, collect experiences, and be part of a special day!”
