Spring kick-off: talks, sports, and theater

April opens with DeĂĄktanya’s weekly public lectures: on April 23, Ágnes TelekinĂ© KovĂĄcs dives into King Matthias’s Corvinas. These sessions are free for all, and visitors can also join the Kistarcsa Cultural Association (Kistarcsai KulturĂĄlis EgyesĂŒlet).
April 24 kicks off Kistarcsa Sports Days (Kistarcsai Sportnapok). At CsigahĂĄz, Aerobics with RĂłmeĂł Szentgyörgyi runs 6:00–7:00 p.m. for Kistarcsa’s children and young adults, free of charge, followed by a 7:30–9:30 p.m. dance house (TĂĄnchĂĄz) with the PannĂłnia Folk Dance Ensemble, also free. A computer course tailored for ages 65+ takes place at CsigahĂĄz the same day. Sports Days continue April 25 with a Spring Performance Hike and a Running Race, plus a playful team Sports Contest at Youth Square (IfjĂșsĂĄgi tĂ©r) from 12:30–1:30 p.m.; entry is free with registration by April 22. Also on April 25: a Wine Tour around town.
On April 26 at 4:00 p.m., the Slovak Theatre stages We Are Not Afraid at CsigahĂĄz, free entry; the performance is in Slovak with Hungarian subtitles.

May: comedy night to heritage walks

The May 7 Deáktanya lecture spotlights Kuno Klebelsberg—lawyer, MP, cultural politician, briefly interior minister, then minister of religion and public education for nearly a decade, credited with major reforms.
May 8, 6:00–8:00 p.m.: “I’ve Arrived” (Megjöttem), stand-up by LĂĄszlĂł Lakatos, with opening act Oliver Wolf at DumaszĂ­nhĂĄz, CsigahĂĄz. Tickets run from $18.40 to $18.40. May 9 brings a local history walk in Kistarcsa’s cemetery. On May 10, the town inaugurates a Birth Bench.
May 14, historian Gergely BödƑk presents on the Transylvanian Hound—Hungary’s rarest dog breed—covering the tradition of hound hunting, day-to-day life with this Hungarikum, and demonstrations of hunting work and obedience like recall and staying in place.
From May 15–17, the 29th Kistarcsa Days (XXIX. Kistarcsai Napok) takes over, with exhibitions tied to the festival running May 22–24 and an opening on May 22. On May 21, Erika SzĂŒcsnĂ© Göblyös explores child massage through the lens of polyvagal theory—touch-based methods bolstering development, reducing stress, improving sleep, and deepening parent-child bonding while soothing the nervous system. On May 28, TamĂĄs Rist recounts the Budapest–Bamako rally: with Bamako unstable, the route shifted to Freetown, Sierra Leone—over 5,592 miles on challenging African roads. May 31 marks Heroes’ Day.

Summer crafts and remembrance

June 5 commemorates Miklós Király. June 20–21 showcases Kistarcsa’s artisans with a two-day crafts exhibition, highlighting local makers and handmade traditions.

Autumn culture and national memory

September 14–20 is the KIKE Cultural Week, featuring the Görhöny Festival and a Heritage Walk. October 10 hosts a National Evening. October 23–25 marks the 70th anniversary of the revolution with a commemorative exhibition.

Year-end tributes
