Spotlight: April Highlights

April 20–26: Lurdy Mozi promises “New week, new films, new experiences,” bundling the week’s best premieres into one place, with tales for kids and movies for grown-ups—shared thrills for everyone.

April 26 brings two engaging puppet experiences. Noah’s Ark (puppet theater) follows a strange dream that pushes Noah to build a boat big enough for every animal, with kids in the audience helping, because ark-building is tough work. Also on April 26, Lurdy Puppet Theater – Story Theater at Lurdy Cinema returns with its family-friendly storytelling format.

Capping the day: The Magic Flute – a Royal Opera House broadcast shines in David McVicar’s enchanting staging of Mozart’s fantasy. A starry cast—Julia Bullock as Pamina, Amitai Pati as Tamino, Huw Montague Rendall as Papageno, Kathryn Lewek as the Queen of the Night, and Soloman Howard as Sarastro—is led by French conductor Marie Jacquot in her Covent Garden debut.

May: Wellness, Wisdom, and More Movies

The cinema’s weekly series keeps rolling: April 27–May 3, May 4–10, May 11–17, May 18–24, and May 25–31 all return with “New week, new films, new experiences”—keeping families and film fans on a steady release cycle.

May 9 centers trauma awareness with the FOCUS ON TRAUMA conference in Budapest, tickets from $54. On the same day, In Focus: Trauma (Fókuszban a trauma) gathers a heavyweight roster: host Noémi Orvos-Tóth, clinical psychologist; Dr. Béla Birkás, associate professor, University of Pécs (PTE); Dr. Laura Kromják, associate professor, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE); Dr. Ildikó Kuritárné Szabó, associate professor and psychotherapist; Prof. Dr. András Láng, university professor and institute director, University of Pécs (PTE); and Dr. Zsuzsanna Mogyorósy-Révész, counseling psychologist and EMDR therapist. May 10 is for classic Hungarian childhood magic: Mazsola (puppet theater) revives Ágnes Bálint’s beloved stories of the tiny piglet driven from home and the warm-hearted Manócska, with unforgettable, charming puppets. Also that day: Lurdy Puppet Theater – Story Theater at Lurdy Cinema returns for family audiences.

May 13 taps into life extension with Longevity – Tips for a Quality Long Life, part of the Lurdy Life series. The talk breaks down seven surprising, simple habits that can add years to your life—habits you can start today—drawing inspiration from the Blue Zones where many people thrive well beyond 90 or 100 with enviable quality of life.

May 17 is the Love Conference, a full day exploring the power of love in everyday life: how to understand and harness love’s force in your life and relationships, how the body signals through love, what distinguishes female and male love, and how both strengthen us. Expect big energy, exciting talks, and a liberating experience—an invitation to live the day with total presence and absorb more at a deeper level.

May 30 offers Generational Fates – Family Constellation Day. If the same situations keep repeating, it’s not random. May 31 brings another Lurdy Puppet Theater – Story Theater, and The Ugly Duckling puppet show lands with a gorgeous, classic puppet technique.
