April: Houses, Gardens, Bustards
April 26 in Fertőd unlocks heritage with free guided tours: “Belépés a múltba – Otthonok és kertek,” plus “Kert a kastélyban,” a walk for European Historic Gardens Day that explores flowers, vines, fountains, and indoor garden design. On April 29, Sarród hosts Túzokles, a great bustard watch across the steppe. April 30 brings the traditional maypole raising in Hegykő at 76 Kossuth Lajos Street.
May: Dawn Trails, Boats, Vines
May 1 bursts with options: May Day at the Fertőrákos Quarry; the 11th Fertőszentmiklós City Running Day (XI. Fertőszentmiklósi Városi Futónap) in Fertőszentmiklós; a sunrise hike in Sopronkövesd; Kógli Picnic (Kógli-Piknik) in Harka; and May Day with a Family Festival in Sopronkövesd. Electric boat rides, “E‑Hajóval a Fertőn,” depart Fertőrákos on multiple dates (May 2, 7, 14, 16, 21, 28, 30). Paddle “Kenutúra a Fertő nádasában” from Balf (May 7, 14, 21, 28). The wildlife-focused Hanyi Safari runs May 8, 15, 22, 29. May 10 features Panorámafutás at 1 Main Street (Fő u. 1) in Fertőrákos. On May 16, “Legendás Fertő‑táj X. – Rákostól Sopronig” sets off from the Quarry bus stop (Kőfejtő). Wine lovers should circle May 21 for the St. Urban’s Day Wine Selection (Szent Orbán-napi Borválasztás) in Hegykő, 74 Kossuth Lajos Street. May 30 invites cyclists to “Kápolnák útján…” tracing cultural heritage across the Alpokalja from Sopronkövesd.
June–July: Music, Kids, Safaris
June brings more electric boat rides (4, 9, 11, 18, 20, 25) and reed-canopy canoeing from Balf (16, 18, 23, 25). The Hanyi Safari continues (5, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26; and July 1). Hegykő’s Children’s Day is on June 7. The “1 Csepp Fesztivál Hegykőn” runs June 12–14. On June 21, the musical “Somewhere in America – Bon-Bon 30” lights up Fertőrákos, followed by the Roby Lakatos Gypsy Jazz Project on June 27.
