A rolling calendar of culture, food, concerts, theater, and family fun sweeps across Siófok from late March into early summer. On the south shore of Lake Balaton, the city strings together festivals, boat cruises, exhibitions, outdoor games, retro parties, and intimate stage nights, making it a year-round magnet beyond beach season. Multiple venues host programs across town, with accommodation and food-and-drink tips tied in throughout.
Spotlight: April Highlights
On April 26, Balatoni Gasztropiac opens at 37 Zamárdi Road, serving regional flavors and artisan bites. The same day at 16:00, pianist Miklós Teleki (Imre Varga Art Prize) and violinist Zsuzsa Berényi present The Wonders of Chamber Music at the Imre Kálmán Cultural Center, Theater Hall—Mozart and Beethoven on the bill: Beethoven’s F minor Appassionata Sonata (solo piano), Mozart’s G major Sonata K. 301 (violin–piano), then Beethoven’s A major Kreutzer Sonata (violin–piano). Tickets: 2,500 HUF (about 6.90 USD); seniors and students 2,000 HUF (about 5.50 USD).
April 25–26 brings GasztroFok Spring, the city’s delicious spring weekend: creative seasonal menus, local and regional wines, sweet and savory specialties, and that easygoing Balaton vibe across Siófok’s restaurants, patisseries, and wineries. Those days also feature Siófok boat excursions and, April 20–26, an outdoor city sightseeing adventure game—family-friendly, playful, and packed with urban landmarks. The adventure game returns April 27–May 3, while daily sightseeing cruises run April 27–30.
Dance, Drama, Books
April 29 doubles up: at 17:00, writer Anikó Sándor presents Falusi Camino (Village Camino) with a talk and book launch at the BRTK Library’s lecture hall, free entry. At 18:00, Dance Cavalcade celebrates International Dance Day at the Imre Kálmán Cultural Center: all 15 of the city’s dance groups share the stage—modern, folk, classical, contemporary—one sweeping gala. Tickets: 2,000 HUF (about 5.50 USD).
On April 30 at 19:00, the Veszprém Petőfi Theatre performs Ferenc Molnár’s The Devil (Az ördög) at the Cultural Center, directed by two-time Mari Jászai Prize winner Péter Benkő. The sparkling, provocative classic examines love, desire, and the subconscious, with a meddling Devil unlocking hidden thoughts. Cast includes Viktor Klem as the Devil, Teodóra Szederjesi as Jolán, and Bence Vaszkó as János; set/costume design by Katalin Libor. Running March 20–April 30, the Siófok Spring Festival knits together concerts, theater, and culture citywide.
Retro Vibes and May Curtain-Raisers
May 1–2, the Siófok Main Beach hosts Retro May Day from 10:00–22:00 daily: ’80s nostalgia with iconic performers, colorful stage shows, a food court, and children’s programs right on the Balaton shore. This year’s twist: come in your best ’80s outfit—top looks win prizes.
May 2 brings stand-up: EGO, Dániel Mogács’s solo set, with Viktor Feiszt on mic check, at Dumaszínház, Siófok – Hotel Azúr. Tickets 5,590 HUF (about 15.40 USD). On May 3, the Madagascar Small Pet Exhibition takes over the Sports Hall (1 Déli Road) from 14:00–17:00 with meerkats as the surprise guests, photo ops with a macaw, a petting corner, and maximum cuteness. May 4 at 19:00, legend Zsuzsa Koncz takes the Imre Kálmán Cultural Center stage with full band—an evening of timeless hits and rich arrangements. Tickets 13,990 HUF (about 38.50 USD). Boat trips and the outdoor sightseeing game continue May 4–10.
Safety, Food Stories and Farce
May 7 is Siófok Transport Safety Day, 9:00–15:00, a hands-on showcase for safe walking, cycling, and driving, with demos and interactive stations for all ages. At 16:30, the BRTK Library’s children’s section hosts Food Tales with Györgyi Kalas—the first pizza bake, why cakes are round, macaroni’s holes, and what the pharaohs ate—free with a valid library card.
That evening at 19:00, Ray Cooney’s Not Now, Darling (Ne most, drágám!) storms the Cultural Center, a two-act farce set in London’s plush fur salon: love triangles, mink coats, missing garments, and runaway mayhem. Directed by Sándor Venyige, with Sándor Nagy, András Csonka, and a rotating cast. Duration: 110 minutes plus interval. Health City, Piano Nights, Racing Lore
May 9, Richter Health City (Richter Egészségváros) pops up at the Main Beach: free screenings, talks, and family activities, with every participation point boosting donations to local healthcare. Richter starts with a 3.5 million HUF base (about 9,625 USD), and you add to it via screenings, talks (even online), and activities, tracked by QR-code wristbands—double points on first entry.
May 11, Café Evenings brings a piano concert by Péter Sándor at the Cultural Center’s Teátrum, tickets 3,500 HUF (about 9.60 USD). The outdoor adventure game and cruises return May 11–17. On May 12 at 19:00, Bernard Slade’s Same Time, Next Year 2 (Jövőre veled ugyanitt 2.) plays the Cultural Center—Doris (Lotti Kovács) and George (Márk Türei) revisit their decades-long once-a-year romance in a warm, witty sequel, directed by Zsolt Körtvélyessy (Mari Jászai laureate).
May 13 at 17:00, Dr. Gabriella Mangó, physician–naturopath, shares The Secret to a Longer Life at the BRTK Library, free entry. On May 15 at 16:30, an interactive live-bee presentation marks World Bee Day in the children’s section—how hives work and how honey travels to your table—with Happy Bees Balaton products available. Also May 15 at 17:00, singer–ethnographer Dr. Irén Lovász speaks at Perczel Mór Gymnasium.
Art, Season Opening and June Momentum
May 18 at the BRTK Library, Formula 1 expert and author Károly Méhes presents 40 Hungarian Grands Prix – 7 Finnish Drivers at 17:00, opened by the Siófok Hungarian–Finnish Friendship Circle. Cruises and the outdoor game run May 18–24.
May 22 launches István Móczár’s life’s work exhibition, A Visualist’s Picture-in-Front Impossibilities / 10th Siófok Balaton Salon, at the Cultural Center, opened by painter Lajos Veszeli, hosted by actress Katalin Karancz. On view through August 14. That day also features Yoga on Deck and the Whitsun Season Opener, May 22–25—music, community, and Balaton spirit to kick off summer. May 23: Plázs Ship Siófok sets sail.
May 30, guitarist Tamás Szekeres plays Styles Across at the Evangelical Church (Oulu Park), blending Omega and Omega Oratorio with Bach and Vivaldi in crossover style, joined by the Siófok Art School Children’s Choir and the Siófok Women’s Choir. Tickets 3,000 HUF (about 8.25 USD). Also May 30: the 12th Cofidis Tour de Balaton rides out. May 31 caps the month with Children’s Day cruises and citywide festivities.
June keeps the rhythm: recurring cruises and the outdoor adventure game run weekly; June 6 welcomes Brushes Up! – 3rd Painters’ Meeting for open-air, expectation-free creativity. June 19–28, Everness Festival unfolds. June 20, the 2nd Street Music Cavalcade turns city corners into live stages. On June 26, dancers of the Bódis–Nagy Katinka (BNK) Dance Association bring a high-energy show to the Cultural Center. And all along, Siófok’s streets, stages, and shoreline keep serving that unmistakable Balaton feel.
