Here’s what’s on and when, so you can plan the perfect Balaton break.

Late April: Cruises, Cinema, Curtain-Up

April 27–30 brings Balatonfüred sightseeing cruises, a relaxed way to catch spring on the lake. The local cinema schedule runs April 27–May 3 and returns weekly through the summer. On April 29 at 19:00, Arácsi Népház hosts …a mi utcánkban… by Lili Fabacsovics, a one-act comedy with the familiar bittersweet Hungarian tone. A mysterious Young Man crashes a wedding in an unnamed town; everyone thinks they know him—but they don’t agree on who he is. Cast: Kós Mátyás, Szalma Lenke, Bodor Géza, Jámbor József, Varga Klári, Tőkés Nikoletta, Pásztor Márk, Stauróczky Viktória, Papp Csaba. Directed by Barnabás Janka. Free entry.

May Day: Bikes, Books, Kids and History

May 1 is stacked: the 4th Balatonfondo brings cycling energy to town, while a Library Picnic and May Day party keep things cozy. The Balatonfüred May Day Run for Kids (Balatonfüredi Futómajális) takes over Kossuth Lajos Street; it’s free with registration, starts from 11:30 by age groups, awards at 13:00. Local heritage and the Jókai Museum mark May Day with special programs. Lake cruises run May 1–3.
On May 2, Csillagfény Produkció presents Easy Virtue (Könnyű erkölcsök), a two-act comedy at the Balatonfüred Congress Center, 19:00. Tickets: about 12.30 USD. Also on May 2 at 10:00, chef Attila Villám presents his book How Does a Hungarian Chef Reach the Royal Family’s Kitchen? at the Huray Villas (Blaha Lujza u. 2.)—free with registration. That evening at 18:00, the House of Jewish Excellence hosts Lutheran pastor and writer Sándor Gabnai in the Living Luminaries series for a talk on vocation, being “from Füred,” and everyday challenges. Weekly cinema and cruise schedules continue May 4–10 and May 11–17.

Mid-May: Chrome, Sails, Peloton

Polish the fenders: May 15–17 is the Balatonfüred Concours d’Elegance, the vintage car beauty show. The Sail-Raising Ceremony and Season-Opening Regatta follow on May 16. The Tour de Hongrie rides through on May 17 around 14:26, the peloton crossing town on Route 71, swinging from the Tesco roundabout into Fürdő Street (Fürdő utca), then toward Balatonszőlős. Cinema and cruise listings roll on May 18–24.
May 22–25 is the Balaton Fish and Wine Festival, a lakeside food-and-wine favorite. Family fun peaks May 30–June 1 with Children’s Day Weekend and a special Children’s Day sightseeing cruise on May 31.

Balatonfüred Wine Weeks pour August 7–30—an anchor of the summer season. More “Rabbi of Füred” guided synagogue and city walks run August 7. The Pannon Castle Theatre (Veszprémi Petőfi Színház) brings The Jungle Book (A dzsungel könyve) to the BSZKK Open-Air Stage on August 11 (about 23.90 USD). On August 15, Attila Kökény & Viktor Rakonczai perform I See You Again… (Újra látlak…) at the open-air stage of the Leisure and Conference Center (about 46.50 USD). Weekly cinema and cruise schedules stay steady through August 3–16 and beyond.

Year-Round Stays and Extras

Accommodation highlights range from the Siloam Reformed Mission Home with lake views for retreats, family stays, and workshops, to the romantic 1868 Astoria Hotel & Restaurant, a restored villa ideal for weddings, events, and meetings, and the Akadémia Hotel with a view of the Tihany Abbey (Tihanyi Apátság), 50 air-conditioned rooms, and a year-round restaurant and bar. Seasonal apartments near Tagore Promenade come with private baths, mini-kitchens, Wi‑Fi, terraces or balconies; guesthouses sit a short stroll from the beach and promenade, many with balconies and optional breakfast. Workshop extras pop up throughout spring and summer, from custom T‑shirt making to Pilates and a watersports season opener at Kékszalag Port.

Plan for flexible dates: cinema and cruise programs renew weekly, with “load more dates” often adding options. From April to late August—and beyond—Balatonfüred keeps the lake spirit lively with sails, strings, screens, stories, and a lot of laughs.
