Eger rolls out a packed spring slate from April 27 to May 17, 2026, with free open-air concerts, intimate talks, big-stage shows, and exhibition openings spread across the city’s squares, museums, and halls. The headline draw is the Egri Csillag Weekend, pouring the region’s signature whites and Egri Bikavér reds across Dobó Square (Dobó tér) while jazz and swing set the soundtrack. Around it, there’s everything from cat shows and rockabilly lineups to organ recitals and family heritage walks through the castle. Here’s how the weeks stack up, glass in hand.
Free music sweeps Dobó Square (Dobó tér)
April 30 sparks with a trio of free concerts tied to Egri Csillag Weekend. Zoltán Mujahid and pianist Ádám Lőrincz channel the golden age of Hungarian light music with an intimate, elegant vocal–piano set shimmering with swing energy. Jambalaya Light distills Hungary’s leading New Orleans band into a three-man essence: Zoltán Nemes on vocals and keys, Zsolt Magda on sax and percussion, and Miklós Bellák on guitar—pure old-school NOLA blues for genre diehards. Hot Jazz Band, formed in 1985, resurrects the 1920s–40s with prewar Hungarian film hits and American jazz-era crowd-pleasers, saluting icons from Katalin Karády and Pál Jávor to Armstrong, Goodman, Crosby, and composers Rezső Seress, George Gershwin, and Duke Ellington.
On May 1, Pankastic! keeps it light and catchy—virtuosic for keen ears, breezy for everyone else—before InFusion Trio turns 2000s club anthems into a live-band rush. On May 2, Berci Temesi and Friends (Temesi Berci és Barátai) close the square’s festivities with a celebration of Egri Csillag, the region’s emblematic white.
Egri Csillag Weekend: wines, plates, and a full stage
From April 30 to May 2, Eger’s biggest spring wine event transforms the main square. More than 20 exhibitors pour top Egri Csillag and Egri Bikavér alongside dishes tuned to the wines. Expect a stage rotation of jazz, funk, and django-pop while the square dresses for a long weekend of sipping and roaming. For a historic twist on tasting, May 2’s Stars with Star (Csillagok Csillaggal) guided walk departs Dobó Square (Dobó tér) for Eger Castle, tracing heroes from Géza Gárdonyi’s The Stars of Eger (Egri Csillagok). Local winemakers pour classicus, superior, and grand superior Egri Csillag at stops along the route.
Talks that lean in
April 30 hosts Help, I’m Raising a Teen! (Segítség, kamaszt nevelek!)—a KEREK-PEREC panel on the hidden terrain of adolescence: sexual maturation, emotions, risks, addiction to alcohol and drugs, eating disorders, pornography, and screen dependency, with writer–teacher–homeopath László Bóna. The same day, Tvrtko: Chernobyl 40 at Hotel Eger & Park brings an exclusive talk marking four decades since Chernobyl (tickets 7,900 HUF, about 21.4 USD). Also April 30, Burn Out Baby—Six Rules of Effective Leadership, written by Gergely Litkai and delivered by Eszter Ónodi, hits Dumaszínház at the Bartakovics Béla Community House (Bartakovics Béla Közösségi Ház) (7,790 HUF, about 21.1 USD).
May 6 layers on two mind-openers: Dr. Barbara Szentgyörgyi unpacks the gut–brain–immune–hormone loop at a Nyitott Akadémia event, while psychologist Sándor Beke’s Narcissism: In the Trap of the Mirror is free with registration. On May 13, Barna Baranyai’s The Border of Stupidity riffs wildly through modern absurdities.
