Lake Season Kicks Off
The Lake Balaton Season Opener 2026 (Balatoni ĂvadnyitĂł 2026) takes over the Keszthely waterfront May 1â2, promising family and kidsâ programs, live music, and a buzzing street-ball vibe. Expect a shoreline craft market and a broad foodie spread for full-on festival energy. Detailed schedules are coming soon, but the moodâs set: âwhen Lake Balaton comes alive.â
Open-Air Gigs on the Water
Two big crowd-pleasers pop up at the Music Pavilion (Zenepavilon) on the lakefront: FRESH plays May 1 at 19:00, and DELTA hits May 2 at 20:30. Both keep the season launch humming right by the waves.
Guided Nature Escapes
The Kis-Balaton Visitor Center runs guided trips to DiĂĄs Islandâs IstvĂĄn Fekete memorial and the Matula hutâby your own vehicle, electric golf cart, or on the water by canoe. Sessions run May 1â3, May 5â10, May 12â17, May 19â24, May 26â31, June 2â7, June 9â14, June 16â21, and June 23â28. Itâs one of the regionâs signature nature experiences.
Games, Walks, Boats
From April 27 to May 3, Keszthely hosts two outdoor city-exploration adventure gamesâJĂĄtĂ©k a szabadban and a âfun outdoor sightseeing adventureââboth designed to lead you through landmarks with puzzles and action. They return weekly: May 4â10, May 11â17, May 18â24, May 25â31, June 1â7, June 8â14, June 15â21, and June 22â28. Lake cruises run on the same rotation, with additional âKeszthely Boat Tourâ (Keszthelyi hajĂłkirĂĄndulĂĄs) weekends June 6â7, 13â14, and 19â21. Perfect for a breezy look at the bay.
Talks, Theater, Full Houses
On May 5 at 18:00, the free series Kedd-Velem hosts actor GergĆ âSajtâ Farkas in Balaton Theatreâs SimĂĄndy Hall, with ZoltĂĄn CsĂĄnyi as hostâan intimate talk with the person behind the profession.
On May 6 at 19:00, the Loupe Theatre Company brings Nathan Ellisâs Too Sharp (TĂșl Ă©les) to Balaton Theatre. Tickets priced at 7,500â9,000 HUF (about $20.40â$24.50) are already sold out. The 120-minute, no-intermission drama follows Anna, a 31-year-old doctor, through burnout inside a system that swallows private life, told through five women riding the fault lines. Cast includes DĂłra Sztarenki, Eszter Földes, Dorka Gryllus, Katalin TakĂĄcs, AlĂz SzatmĂĄri, and DĂĄniel Brezovszky; directed and translated by JĂĄnos Antal HorvĂĄth with design by Anna Fekete, costumes by Nina KaszĂĄs, music by VirĂĄg âZazieâ Farkas, and choreography by MĂĄrton Csuzi.
Craft and Community
The straw-weaving exhibition of the âASzakkörâ program opens May 8 at 17:00 in Balaton Theatreâs KacsĂłh Hall and runs free through June 4. Expect a window into traditional craft techniques by local workshop participants. Omega Musical, Big Stage
The Girl with Pearly Hair â OMEGA Musical (GyöngyhajĂș lĂĄny â OMEGA musical) lands May 9 at 19:00 in Balaton Theatreâs main stage, with tickets at 12,900â14,900 HUF (about $35.10â$40.60). On May 11 at 18:00, the free World Traveler Club in SimĂĄndy Hall screens and tells stories from Oceania and Asia through Africa to South America with photographer-speaker Roland MarkĂł, focusing on peopleâs daily lives and traditions.
On May 13 at 10:00, Batyu Theatre (Batyu SzĂnhĂĄz) presents Witchâs Kitchen (BoszorkĂĄnykonyha), a 40â45 minute object-puppet cooking tale for kids in SimĂĄndy Hall. Tickets: 3,000 HUF (about $8.15). Classic stories (Zsigmond MĂłriczâs Iciri-piciri; folk tales The Bear and the Cat [A medve Ă©s a macska], Stone Soup [KĆleves]; Elek Benedekâs Salt [A sĂł]) come alive with ladles, pots, and tea towels as heroes. On May 30 at 18:00, Love Is No Shame â Songs from Old Movies (A szerelem nem szĂ©gyen â RĂ©gi filmek dalai) revives the lush swing and foxtrot of 1930sâ40s Hungarian cinema with live music in the main theater. June: City Day and Jazz
Cruises and outdoor adventure games continue into June, with Keszthely City Day 2026 (Keszthely VĂĄros Napja 2026) slated for June 5â7 on Main Square (FĆ tĂ©r)âopen-air shows, crafts, concerts, and dance houses. Jazz highlights at Balaton Theatre include the Lilla Orbay Quintet (ORBAY LILLA QUINTET) on June 3 and the Ăron TĂĄlas Trio (TĂLAS ĂRON TRIĂ) on June 25 (each 4,000 HUF, about $10.85).
Summer Camps
From June 22â26, Summer Break â Dance Camp (NYĂRI SZĂNET â TĂNCTĂBOR) invites 5â10-year-olds to a playful dance camp led by Zsuzsanna DĂ©zsenyi in the GKMK Great Hall, 9:00â12:00 daily, launching with a minimum of 10, max 15 kids.
