May 1–3: Season Kickoff, Concerts, and Nature
The Balaton Season Opening 2026 (Balatoni Évadnyitó 2026) on May 1–2 jumpstarts lakeside life at the Keszthely waterfront (Balaton-part) with family and kids’ activities, concerts, a buzzing street ball, a shorefront craft fair, and abundant street food. Music lands fast: FRESH plays the Music Pavilion (Zenepavilon) on May 1 at 19:00, followed by DELTA on May 2 at 20:30. Through May 3, tackle outdoor puzzle-style sightseeing games across town, and hop on Keszthely’s scenic boat tours on the lake.
Nature lovers can book guided trips via the Little Balaton Visitor Center (Kis-Balaton Látogatóközpont) to Diás Island’s (Diás-sziget) István Fekete Memorial (Fekete István Emlékhely) and the Matula Hut by their own vehicle, golf cart, or by water in canoes. Guided programs run May 1–3 and return weekly throughout spring.
May 4–12: Games, Talks, and a Sold-Out Drama
From May 4 to 10, the outdoor city adventure game and Keszthely boat cruises continue. May 5 brings Kedd-Velem at 18:00 (Balaton Theatre, Simándy Hall): a free audience talk with actor Gergő “Sajt” Farkas, hosted by Zoltán Csányi.
Guided Little Balaton trips run May 5–10. On May 6 at 19:00, Nathan Ellis’s Too Close (Túl éles) arrives via Loupe Theatre Company (Loupe Színházi Társulás) at the Balaton Theatre, part of the 2026 Spring Subscription, 120 minutes without intermission, and sold out. Ticket tiers were 7,500–9,000 HUF (about 20.60–24.70 USD). May 8–11: Straw Craft Showcase and a World Traveler’s Night
On May 8 at 17:00, the Straw Weaving Exhibition opens in the Balaton Theatre’s Kacsóh Hall, free to visit through June 4. It spotlights works from the local Straw Weaving Workshop (Szalmafonás Szakkör) within the “ASzakkör” program, celebrating folk craft traditions and community art. Opening remarks by Renáta Dervalics (National Institute of Culture, Zala County) and Bálint Osvald (Goldmark Károly Cultural Center), with a musical appearance by Sheila Judit Varjassi.
May 9 at 19:00, The Girl with Pearly Hair – OMEGA musical (Gyöngyhajú lány – OMEGA musical) hits the Balaton Theatre’s main stage, starring ExperiDance’s successor company Re-Production and headlined by Léna Kóbor. May 12–18: Kids’ Theater, Mentalist Magic, and More Nature
Guided Little Balaton excursions run May 12–17. On May 13 at 10:00, Batyu Theatre (Batyu Színház) presents Witch’s Kitchen (Boszorkánykonyha), a 40–45-minute object-and-puppet show in Simándy Hall (tickets 3,000 HUF, about 8.24 USD), spinning classics like Zsigmond Móricz’s Iciri-piciri, the folk tales The Bear and the Cat (A medve és a macska) and Stone Soup (Kőleves), and Elek Benedek’s The Salt (A só)—where pots, spoons, and towels become heroes.
That afternoon at 17:00, the Psyche Workshop (Psziché Műhely) hosts a free talk in the Básti Hall: Nóra Angyal-Szilvás on how companion animals support mental health from infancy to old age.
On May 14 at 19:00, Danny Blue brings The Secret (A Titok) to the Balaton Theatre, a mind-bending mentalist evening with tickets at 8,990; 10,990; 12,990; 14,990 HUF (about 24.68; 30.14; 35.61; 41.07 USD). June keeps the momentum with constant Keszthely boat trips, outdoor city adventure games, and guided Little Balaton tours. On June 3, the Lilla Orbay Quintet (Orbay Lilla Quintet) plays the Balaton Theatre (tickets 4,000 HUF, about 10.98 USD). June 5–7 marks Keszthely City Day 2026 (Keszthely Város Napja 2026) in Main Square (Fő tér) with official ceremonies, open-air entertainment, crafts, concerts, and dance houses—full schedules to follow.
