Starting in 2026, Tuesday weaving workshops take place at the Sóstó Open Air Museum (Sóstói Múzeumfalu), Beszterec farmhouse (Besztereci porta), Skanzen Street (Skanzen utca) 8, 4431 Nyíregyháza. Beginners and curious makers dive into the basics by creating a small rag rug—and everyone takes home their finished “masterpiece.”
What You’ll Learn
Weaving was once traditional women’s work in peasant life. Even after factory-made textiles spread, families still wove rag blankets to upcycle worn-out clothes. Those colorful, stripy weaves covered oven benches and wooden settles, and doubled as stable blankets or sheets. Here, students get hands-on with loom setup, warp and weft, and pattern rhythm while crafting a compact rag rug that nods to this thrifty, vibrant heritage.
