Hungary’s cívis city lines up festivals, concerts, theater, food-and-drink blowouts, family days at the zoo and amusement park, vintage markets, and motorsport weekends across multiple venues. Bookmark the big ones, but leave room to stumble into something brilliant.

May kicks off with music, theater, and markets

Start with May Day at the Amusement Park, then on May 4 the Kölcsey Center’s Grand Hall hosts “Spring Wind – 40 Years…,” a Jubilee Queen Symphonic Concert (about $36–$42). The same night, Veres1 Színház stages the bedroom farce Not Now, Darling (Ne most, drágám!) at the VOKE Egyetértés Cultural Center ($23–$26).
May stacks up with the Ruyter Street farmers’ market (May 9) and the Debrecen Antiques Fair on May 10, where only genuine antiques, retro pieces, artworks, tools, and quirky gift ideas fill the stalls. Also May 10: Birds and Trees Day at the Debrecen Zoo.
On May 11, Eric Chappell’s Heat Stroke (SpanyolHátha) hits VOKE ($27–$30). May 12 brings “Radiance and Depth” with the Kodály Philharmonic Debrecen at the Kölcsey Grand Hall ($9–$12). The 3rd Debrecen Art Week runs May 14–17 citywide.

Ray Cooney’s Run for Your Wife (Páratlan páros) pops into VOKE via Bánfalvy Stúdió on June 5 ($20–$23). The Kodály Philharmonic’s season closer Primal Force (ŐSERŐ) – Season Finale Concert shakes the Kölcsey Grand Hall June 5–6 ($9–$12). June 6 brings We Used to Be Like This… 20 Stories, 20 Songs (Ilyenek voltunk… 20 történet, 20 dal) at VOKE ($21–$24). The musical comedy The Naked Truth (Meztelen igazság) lands June 10 ($23). Evening zoo walks return June 12, just as the Debrecziner Gourmet Festival (Debrecziner Gourmet Fesztivál, June 12–14) tempts taste buds ($7.50–$83). The Ruyter Street market and a toy-car fair arrive June 13, the Antiques Fair June 14. The National Theatre Meeting (Országos Színházi Találkozó) spans June 15–21. Motorsport fans get the Speedway Junior European Championship semifinal June 20, and gearheads browse the Summer Veteran Spare Parts Fair & Exhibition June 21.
EDDA Művek Symphonic shakes the Nagyerdő Open-Air Stage June 26 ($38–$55), followed by another evening zoo walk. Antiques return June 28.

Summer: big stages, street music, and Campus Festival

July rolls out Attila Kökény & Viktor Rakonczai – I’ll See You Again… (Újra látlak…) on July 3 ($38–$45). Evening at the zoo July 10, with Charlie – Beyond Everything… (Mindenen túl…) that night at the Open-Air Stage ($38–$45). Markets and fairs keep cycling: Ruyter Street (July 11) and Antiques (July 12). Irigy Hónaljmirigy celebrates 35 years on July 17 ($38–$45), overlapping Debrecen Street Music Days (July 17–18).
