Ócsa is packing spring and early summer with music, literature, nature walks, festivals, stage shows, and hands-on workshops across multiple venues in town. From the 50th Ócsai Kulturális Napok (Ócsa Cultural Days) to small-club vibes and open-air heritage, the schedule blends tradition with a live-wire present. Family-friendly programs, free community clubs at the Egressy Gábor Leisure Center, and nature tours roll on week by week.
Opening notes and golden anniversaries
On May 8, the 50th Ócsai Kulturális Napok launches with a special gala: a stage conversation with Földiné Hajdu Anna, who envisioned the series half a century ago, followed by an acoustic opener from singers Attila Kökény and Viktor Rakonczai. The month-long festival (May 8–June 5) promises music from rock to opera and folk to contemporary, alongside literature, theater, health and sports, faith, and pure leisure — all ages welcome. The official detailed lineup is coming, but the vibe is set: a jubilant, living tradition.
Engines, beats, and after-hours
May 9 roars in with the Benzingőz Fesztivál & Női Napozó — Ócsa’s motor and car “petting” day. It kicks off with a local parade, then from 13:00 a rock-fueled afternoon ignites in front of Egressy. When the engines cool, the dance floor heats up: Benzingőz AFTER features Purebeat and Ramit late into the night.
Into the woods and across the reeds
Also on May 9, a mushroom-spotting trek led by expert Lajos Boros from the Hungarian Mycological Society helps participants identify species of the Great Plain — including edible finds. Arrive by car; the group caravans from the meeting point. Tickets are online only.
On May 10, Bird and Tree Day on the Selyem-rét nature trail tracks cavity‑nesters. With nesting in full swing, guides check bird boxes; where suitable, chicks are ringed for research, turning the walk into a front‑row master class in birdlife. The tour runs with a minimum of 10 bookings.
And on May 16, Wonders of the Spring Fen explores rarely visited zones of the Ócsa Landscape Protection Area. Expect orchids — possibly several special species — plus insights into fen formation and the web of life it sustains, from songbirds to hunting raptors. Tickets online only.
Health, heritage, and hands-on wisdom
May 10 devotes a day to women’s health under the banner Health Is a Treasure. Talks and demos aim for real-life takeaways to support body–mind balance, recognizing how strongly women shape health awareness at home.
On May 17, The Pharmacy of Nature walks through wild edibles, poisons, and medicinal plants: how to recognize them, what stories they carry, and how we use them now. The second half turns practical with tea and remedy‑making (like creams or medicated honey), depending on the seasonal pick. Recommended from age 12; tickets online.
Music in sacred spaces, and young talents rising
May 11 revives a beloved tradition with a József Gregor memorial concert in the Ócsa Reformed Monument Church. Soloists of the Hungarian State Opera bring iconic arias back to the stone walls where the legendary bass once triumphed.
On May 14, young musicians from the Múzsák Primary Art School’s Ócsa program step up for a chamber concert at Egressy — a prime moment to cheer on the next generation.
May 15 turns the ancient church into a chamber of rock‑poetry: Tibi Kiss’s Aranyakkord (with Gábor Vastag and Gábor Andor Ufo) delivers an intimate set woven with lyrical imagery and driving melodies. Expect emotion amplified by centuries-old acoustics.
Words out loud, words for everyone
The SZAVAK SZÁRNYÁN talent search on May 12 invites performers to bring poems and prose to Egressy’s small stage — with spotlight nods to the anniversaries of Zoltán Zelk, Éva Janikovszky, Lajos Kassák, and Gyula Illyés, though any writer’s works are fair game.
On May 13, VersMindenÁron delivers unconventional lit lessons to students at Ócsa Bolyai János High School (Ócsai Bolyai János Gimnázium). Actor Áron Sövegjártó fires up classic and contemporary poems with pace and humor, proving verse isn’t confined to textbooks. School-organized and free through the festival.
Theater, talks, and a laugh-out-loud lineup
May 16’s OPKE Café Evenings host science ambassador Balázs Boncsarovszki on curiosity’s path to research and how young scholars can find their voice in both science and community. Moderator: Katalin Pappné Hajdu, head of ÓPKE.
May 29 brings the farce Hullajó Nászéjszaka (A Killer Wedding Night): a two‑act comedy where app‑era love goes deadly wrong — a bride whose first three grooms didn’t survive the wedding night, a family in full prevention mode, and a father hopelessly in love. Laughter meets the thin lines between care and paranoia, love and madness. The same evening, Seethaler Theater Nights also features Hullajó Nászéjszaka.
Authors, comedy, and Friday soundtracks
An author meet with bestselling writer Anita Tomor lands on May 22 at the Tamás Falu City Library’s invitation, a Cultural Days tradition. Her romances and children’s books blend real travels, personal notes, and heart. Expect a close-up on inspiration and process.
Comedian László Lakatos hits Egressy on May 27 at 19:00 with Megjöttem, opener Oliver Wolf. Tickets range from about $21.70 to $26.70. The same day at 14:00, the 2nd Participation Forum convenes a roundtable for Ócsa’s seniors to co‑imagine a more livable, active, community‑minded city.
On June 12, Anett Kormos brings A nőknek nincs humora to Egressy; tickets are about $24.80.
Every Friday, Hangos Péntek at #abisztró curates soundtracks not strictly for clubbing: funk, house, techno, retro, or even a request show, tuned to the night.
Open cellars, kids’ day, and civic moments
May 30 is all about the Orbán Day Open Cellars, with programs from 10:00 along the Öreghegy Cellar Row — also the Cultural Days’ Orbán‑napi Nyitott Pincék highlight. May 31 rolls into a full‑throttle Children’s Day packed with family fun.
June 4 marks the Day of National Unity with a commemoration. June 5 hosts a Summer‑Welcoming Catholic Charity BYO Ball under tented garden vibes — music, chats, and goodwill — plus Teacher’s Day greetings and the city awards ceremony.
Always-on community and learning
Free weekly clubs at the Egressy Gábor Leisure Center run throughout May, June, and July, opening doors to learning, growth, and connection. From May 18–20, there’s digital training for seniors. A Waldorf doll workshop meets monthly on Saturday afternoons. The Tájházi summer day camp welcomes kids 6–12 from June 29 to July 3. And for classical fans, Klasszikusok vendégségben arrives May 23.
Across Ócsa’s venues and green spaces, spring into a season where heritage hums, engines purr, poems speak, and music floats between medieval stones and modern stages — a living, local celebration built to be shared.
