From May 8 to June 5, Ócsa turns into a buzzing cultural hub. The 50th Ócsai Kulturális Napok (Ócsa Cultural Days) anchors a packed lineup of concerts, nature walks, literature, theater, community talks, kids’ delights, and late-night hangs. Events run at multiple venues around 2364 Ócsa, with plenty that are free, family-friendly, and rooted in local traditions.

Health, Nature, Heritage

May 10 brings The Value of Health – Women’s Wellness Day, a full program of talks and demos dedicated to body–mind balance, practical lifestyle tips, and confidence for women who often shape their families’ health choices. The same day, Bird and Tree Day on the Selyem-rét (Silk Meadow) Study Trail heads deep into nesting season. Expect close-ups of nest boxes, fluffy chicks, and, where possible, live scientific bird ringing. The walk runs with a minimum of 10 participants.

On May 11, the Ócsa Reformed Monument Church hosts a József Gregor memorial concert, reviving the legendary opera evenings once led by the late bass icon. Soloists from the Hungarian State Opera will fill the historic space with beloved arias.

Clubs, Classrooms, Stages

Weekly club programs at the Gábor Egressy Leisure Center roll May 11–16 and keep returning throughout summer. All clubs are free, welcoming anyone eager to learn, improve, or just connect.

On May 12, Wings of Words invites budding performers to the Egressy chamber stage for a verse-and-prose talent show. This year highlights classics tied to anniversaries—Zoltán Zelk, Éva Janikovszky, Lajos Kassák, Gyula Illyés—though participants can bring other authors too. The next day, VersMindenÁron lands as a special lit session for János Bolyai High School students: actor Áron Sövegjártó delivers classic and contemporary poetry with pace and humor, proving verse isn’t stuck between textbook covers.

On May 14, young musicians from the Múzsák Art School’s Ócsa branch perform chamber works at Egressy—an ideal moment to cheer on tomorrow’s talent.

Friday Vibes and Temple Gigs

Hangos Péntek at #abisztró drops in on May 15 and returns May 23, 29, and June 5 and 12. It’s not a blowout—more like easy talk, good drinks, and a rotating soundtrack: funk, house, techno, retro, or even a request hour, depending on the night.

Also on May 15, the Aranyakkord trio—Tibi Kiss (best known as Quimby’s frontman), Gábor Vastag, and Andor “Ufo” Gábor—brings poetic, pulsing rock to the Árpád-era Ócsa Reformed Monument Church. Expect intimate storytelling amid centuries-old walls that amplify the emotion.

Wet Meadows, Science Chats, DIY

May 16 explores the Spring Fen Meadow Wonders in the Ócsa Landscape Protection Area’s rarely visited sections. With luck, multiple special orchid species will be on show, alongside insights into fen formation, ecological value, and the birds of prey and songbirds overhead. Tickets are online only. The same day, OPKE Café Evenings host A Slice of Science—an informal conversation with science ambassador Balázs Boncsarovszki, moderated by OPKE head Katalin Pappné Hajdu, tracing curiosity’s path to research and community impact. Also on May 16: a monthly Saturday Waldorf Doll Workshop (2–5 p.m.) at Egressy for crafters, and a small-pitch football tournament at the city field.

Herbs, History, Digital Skills

May 17’s Nature’s Pharmacy takes a herb walk through spring flora—what’s edible, toxic, medicinal, how to recognize them, and how uses have evolved. In part two, participants make tea and a remedy such as a cream or honey blend. Recommended from age 12; tickets online. The same day, Premonstratensians in Ócsa focuses on the monastery-era legacy at the Reformed Monument Church. From May 18–20, seniors get Digital Education sessions, and club weeks continue May 18–23.

Authors, Comedy, Community Voices

On May 22, bestselling author Anita Tomor visits with tales that blend travel, personal experience, and emotion, hosted by the Tamás Falu City Library as part of the Cultural Days tradition of bringing contemporary writers to town. May 23 features Classical Guests, plus another Hangos Péntek.

May 27 is busy: comedian László Lakatos headlines his solo show I’ve Arrived at Egressy, with opening act Olivér Wolf. Tickets run approximately $21–$26. There’s also the 2nd Participation Forum at Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street from 2 p.m., inviting Ócsa’s seniors to shape a more livable, active, community-minded city through roundtable discussion.

Theater, Cellars, Children’s Day

May 29 doubles down: Hangos Péntek returns, and the HeArt Company stages Honeymoon to Die For, a riotous two-act comedy (2×50 minutes). In a world of app-based romance, the perfect bride might be a little too deadly—she’s lost three husbands before sunrise. The family scrambles to stop tragedy; a besotted father can’t help himself. It’s a sharp romp on the thin line between care and paranoia, love and madness. That same night, Seethaler Theater Evenings also hosts Honeymoon to Die For.

May 30 is the Ócsa Cultural Days flagship: Orbán Day Open Cellars on the Öreghegy (Old Hill) Cellar Row from 10 a.m., with a full day of programs. May 31 celebrates Children’s Day—big smiles, big energy, all invited.

Commemorations, Awards, Summer Start

June 1–6 keeps the club weeks humming. June 4 marks the Day of National Unity with a commemoration. June 5 wraps the main run with Hangos Péntek, the Teachers’ Day greeting, and the City Awards ceremony, plus a Summer Kickoff Catholic Charity Bring-a-Dish Ball—think garden party vibes, music, chatter, and a tented courtyard, all for a good cause.

Beyond June: Laughter, Camps, and Clubs

The Cultural Days theme—OKN 50: fizzy past, living present—sets the tone for the year. After June 5, weekly clubs continue June 8–13 and June 15–20. On June 12, comedian Anett Kormos brings Women Have No Sense of Humor to Egressy, tickets about $24. Summer rolls on with more club weeks June 22–27 and June 29–July 4, plus a Folk House Summer Day Camp for kids aged 6–12 from June 29 to July 3. Club weeks keep returning July 6–11, 13–18, 20–25, July 27–Aug 1, Aug 3–8, 10–15, 17–22, 24–29, Aug 31–Sept 5, and Sept 7–12, then Sept 14–19, keeping Ócsa’s community heartbeat strong long after the last encore fades.
