2026.05.04. (Monday) – 2026.05.10. (Sunday)
1036 Budapest, Óbuda, Mátyás Király Road (Mátyás király út) 24.
A sprawling, hands-on science playground opens its doors in Óbuda for a full week of experiments, stage magic with a scientific twist, and family-friendly challenges. The Palace of Wonders (Csodák Palotája) invites kids, teens, parents, and curious grandparents to dive into thousands of square feet of interactive exhibits, daily live shows, and nonstop lab adventures. Come for an hour, end up staying all day—this is the kind of place that turns tinkering into a team sport.
Four times a day, the Öveges Stage lights up with a Science Show that blends showmanship and hard facts—expect sparks, booms, liquid nitrogen fog, and a steady stream of aha moments. Between shows, the Richter Gedeon Lab runs experiments all day, guiding visitors through safe, surprising mini-investigations. It’s not just look-don’t-touch here; sleeves up, goggles on, and straight into the fun.

Who It’s For
Everyone. The floor is designed so toddlers can discover motion and balance while older kids chase electricity, optics, and puzzles that mess with perception. Teens get the wow factor on stage and the freedom to try real lab protocols. Parents catch themselves competing at brainteasers. Grandparents rediscover the joy of pressing a button and making a universe spin. If you’re into tinkering, tech, illusions, physics gadgets, or just laughing while you learn, you’ll fit right in.
STEAM for Educators, Free
On 2026.05.11., the education team opens a free Csopa STEAM workshop for educators—preschool teachers, primary and secondary teachers, and professionals in informal education. The goal: build next season’s 2026/27 professional program together and ease teachers into STEAM areas with hands-on experiences. Attend in person or online. Ready-made program packages target preschool, lower primary, and upper primary groups; high school groups can request tailor-made STEAM workshops. It’s a rare chance to co-design content with the museum’s team and take classroom-ready ideas straight back to school.
How to Make a Day of It
The site sits in Óbuda, a historic neighborhood on the Buda side. If you’re coming from elsewhere in Budapest, public transport is straightforward, and once you’re here you can stretch your legs along the nearby Danube sections or settle into one of the many low-key local eateries. The science floor is large enough to fill a full day—hit a morning Science Show, break for lunch, then spend the afternoon in the Richter Gedeon Lab and loop back for a different stage program. Most exhibits reward repeat tries, especially the team puzzles.
Where to Stay Nearby
If you want to turn it into a mini-break, the area offers a broad range of stays:
– Family-style guesthouses with 20 rooms near Csillaghegy Bath (Csillaghegyi Strandfürdő) and Római Lido (Római Élményfürdő), ideal for solo travelers, couples, and families. Air-conditioned standard rooms, shower bathrooms.
– A cozy hotel in a leafy suburban quarter north of downtown Budapest with double rooms and two apartments; en-suite baths with showers or tubs, satellite TV, and mini-fridges.
– Guesthouses on the Roman Riverside (Római-part) in a quiet holiday zone, around 3.1 miles (5 km) from Flórián Square (Flórián tér) and 5 miles (8 km) from the city center. Eat, Refuel, Repeat
You’re spoiled for choice around Óbuda and the Roman Riverside (Római-part). Think fresh, healthy staples from breakfast to dinner; a new self-service spot in Flórián Courtyard (Flórián Udvar); riverside panoramas with live music and a big garden; a cheerful neighborhood venue with a summer terrace; and easygoing bistros where you can pop in anytime. The Aquincum Hotel Budapest’s Apicius restaurant reimagines Hungarian classics with standout local wines. Craving crunch? Try a giant veal Wiener schnitzel that spills over the plate. Prefer Mediterranean? Hand-shaped pizzas, fresh pasta, and house-made Italian desserts have you covered. In the mood for everything at once? Go buffet—starters, soups, mains, and the desserts you can’t skip. And for something new, the Cut & Barrel Bistro in the old Goldberger Textile Factory blends Basque and Latin American roots into a contact-cuisine menu, framed by striking industrial architecture and seasonal ingredients.
