Right on the Danube at 1137 Budapest, Újpesti rakpart 1, Zsilip is the kind of community hub you pop into and end up staying. It’s a modern Jewish cultural space with an easygoing vibe: kosher café and bagel bar, live music, theater, study programs, and a two-level playhouse for kids. The focus is connection—accessible Jewish culture for everyone, all backgrounds, all ages. Here’s what’s lined up from May into early June 2026.
Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School Is Back
On Sundays—May 17, May 24, May 31, and June 7—Zsilip’s beloved kids’ program returns with a fresh identity: Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School. Generations of children still trade stories about those Sunday mornings full of games and playful learning, and now the experience relaunches in the upgraded Zsilip Center with a two-story playground and plenty of classrooms.
From 10:00 to 12:30, a young, energetic team welcomes everyone ages 4 to 14 (yes, teens included). Sessions run by age group, where kids prep for the holidays together, learn about mitzvot, get to know traditions, and pick up values designed to stick for life. Whether you’re tiny, a tween, or eyeing your bar/bat mitzvah, this school was built for you.
Havruta: House of Learning, Mondays
Weekly learning nights kick off on Mondays, including May 18, May 25, and June 1. The schedule is simple and steady:
• Monday 18:30 – On the weekly Torah portion with Rabbi Sámuel Glitzenstein.
• Monday 19:30 – The role of women in Judaism with Rebbetzin Sarah Nógrádi.
The sessions are structured but warm, and the format invites questions and conversation. Think of it as your Monday reset, anchored in tradition and modern relevance.
Women, Roles, and Real Talk
On Wednesday, May 20 at 19:30, Rebbetzin Sarah Nógrádi goes deep on the real role of women in Judaism, taking on the question marks (and exclamation points) that hover around the topic. Participation is free with registration. The learning is geared to halachically Jewish participants, and you can join anytime throughout the year.
Shavuot at Zsilip: Family, Flavor, and the Ten Commandments
Friday, May 22 turns into a full Shavuot celebration for the whole family—reading the Ten Commandments, a lively raffle, special kids’ programming, and an ice cream party to keep the dairy tradition deliciously alive. This year, the holiday of receiving the Torah flows right into Shabbat. After the programs, the community welcomes Shabbat with Kabbalat Shabbat, followed by a Shabbat dinner that carries the flavor and spirit of Shavuot.
Havruta: House of Learning, Wednesdays
Back by popular demand for a third straight year, Havruta on Wednesdays keeps the rhythm going: two hours every week, two powerful topics, and one learning ethos that treats study not as an academic task but as a worldview and a way of life. The plural is the point—Judaism is communal. The strength comes from learning and living together.
Modeled on yeshiva study in small groups, this track opens Zsilip’s doors wide for anyone thirsty for knowledge. The Wednesday schedule (including May 27 and June 3):
• Wednesday 17:30 – The Era of the Messiah: philosophy and halacha with Rabbi Baruch Oberlander.
• Wednesday 18:30 – Sefer HaMitzvot: the 613 commandments with Rabbi Jonatán Megyeri.
Deep Dive with Rabbi Oberlander
On Wednesday, May 27 at 17:30, Havruta zooms in with Rabbi Baruch Oberlander on the Messianic era—what the sources say, how philosophy meets halacha, and why these ideas still move people. Participation is free with registration; learning is for halachically Jewish participants, and you can hop on at any point in the year. Venue: Zsilip, 1137 Budapest, Újpesti rakpart 1.
Eat, Learn, Linger: The Zsilip Experience
Between sessions, the kosher café and bagel bar keep the energy up, and the broader cultural program—music, theater, community events—rounds out the experience. It’s a place to browse, settle in, and meet people who share curiosity about Jewish culture and tradition. Parents get breathing space while kids climb, craft, and laugh their way through the playhouse; students swap insights in small circles; and Shabbat arrives each week as a communal exhale.
Key dates to circle: May 17 (Sunday School), May 18 (Monday Havruta), May 20 (Women in Judaism, 19:30), May 22 (Shavuot celebration into Shabbat), May 24 and May 31 (Sunday School), May 25 and June 1 (Monday Havruta), May 27 (Wednesday Havruta and the Oberlander session at 17:30), and June 3 (Wednesday Havruta).
