Csillagösvény Labirintus Öko Élménypark is back in 2026 with a full slate of adventures at 6767 Ópusztaszer, Szoborkert Street 1, right beside the Ópusztaszer National Historical Heritage Park. The showstopper here is the world’s third-largest labyrinth: 2.17 miles of hedge walls shaped into the legendary Csodaszarvas (Miraculous Deer) motif, visible even from satellites. Little ones can tinker at a custom-built sand factory and try folk games; older kids and puzzle fans get exclusive logic carpet mazes you won’t find anywhere else in Hungary; and all ages can take on the question-trail hedge maze.
All-Day Dragon Realm: Pusztán egy piknik (A Picnic on the Puszta), May 16
For one day, from dawn to midnight, the maze transforms. Dragon Grove is about to be born: stories, legends, and adventures in a place where imagination sprints ahead and you can literally follow in a dragon’s steps. Be among the first to explore it. Meet the seven-headed dragon—and if you’ve got the nerve, pick up a sword and face it. Expect puppet theater for kids and adults, live medieval instrumental music for a time-warp soundtrack, a parade of street food, and wines, beers, and cocktails for every taste. When night falls, the labyrinth goes fully nocturnal with fire, smoke, and darkness—can you find your way out?
Matthias the King and the Truthful Shepherd
Also on May 16, within the Pusztán egy piknik (A Picnic on the Puszta) series, the Aranygyapjú Társulat stages a musical puppet show of Gyula Illés’s folk-inspired tale Mátyás király és az igazmondó juhász (Matthias the King and the Truthful Shepherd). The production blends medieval melodies and Renaissance music, weaving classic storytelling with live sound for a cross-generational crowd. It’s where story, music, and puppetry meet—low on fuss, high on charm, easy to love.
Dragon Grove Family Flight and Quiz
Still May 16: from 2 p.m., dragons take center stage on the plain at Sárkányliget (Dragon Grove). Bring your own paper kite for a shared fly, then team up for the family quiz that zips from global myths to the secrets of the Draco constellation. Test your mettle—prizes await the top three teams, and yes, surprises are promised.
Night Maze: Fire, Smoke, Stars
May 16 and May 24 both bring the after-dark version of the Csillagösvény. Once evening settles, the hedge corridors shift character: lights and shadows steer you, the starry sky recolors every step, and a single question hangs in the air—can you beat the clock to the exit by midnight? On May 16, the mood tilts toward the mystical as Dragon Grove’s world bleeds into the paths for a pinch of extra legend. No rush. No hurry. Just step in, let it take you, and see where the night spits you out. When do we meet?
Summer Nights and Traditions
June 27 brings Night Maze and Fire-Jumping—because everything’s different in the dark, and tradition burns brightest after sundown. July 11 repeats the pure Night Maze experience under the stars. August 8? Again, total night-mode exploration in the world’s third-largest labyrinth, lit only by the sky.
Late-Summer Tales and Autumn Thrills
August 20 turns the paths into Meseösvény (Tale Trail), a story-sprinkled route for families and folklore lovers. September 12 revives Pusztán egy piknik (A Picnic on the Puszta), the perfect excuse for a mood-lifting day together in Ópusztaszer—laid-back, local, and rich in fresh air.
October: Pumpkins and Midnight Courage
October 24 pairs Night Maze with pumpkin carving, blending craft with dusk-born daring. On October 31, Halloween doubles down: carve the most blood-curdling pumpkin you can dream up, then take that courage into the night maze’s shadowy tracks. Fire, smoke, and pitch-black corners will test your nerve. Only one way to know if you’ve got enough.
Where to Stay
Ópusztaszer rolls out the welcome mat all year. The Forest Guesthouses comprise the Wellness Guesthouse and the Family Guesthouse, set in a calm, handsome environment right by the woods. Rooms and apartments aim to please, with nature-forward style and a neighborly vibe. There’s also a central guesthouse in town offering year-round stays with free parking and comfortable, well-kept spaces. For groups and fresh-air fans, the campsite next to the Ópusztaszer National Historical Heritage Park in the Pusztaszer Landscape Protection Area spreads out shaded pitches for tents and caravans, plus cabins and apartments—ideal for families, friends, and student groups.
What to Eat
Craving classics? Ópusztaszer’s csárda dishes up hearty Hungarian soups, cauldron stews, fish, and specialties built on beef, Hungarian Grey cattle, and mangalica, along with oven-baked favorites and vegetarian plates. The design puts homey comfort and family-friendliness first—on the terrace, robust carved-wood furniture sets the tone. Nearby, Szeri Csárda sits just 656 feet from the Heritage Park entrance, newly refreshed inside and out and styled like a period outlaw tavern. The furnishings and displayed artifacts channel pure betyár atmosphere. Note: Szeri Csárda currently welcomes pre-booked groups only.
