Hegymagas Market 2026: weekly Saturday producers’ market with fresh bread, seasonal veg, artisanal cheeses, smoked meats, vegan bakes, and local honey. Family-friendly, dog-friendly, card payments, breakfast for early birds.
where: 8265 Hegymagas, Szigligeti út

Hegymagas wakes up early every Saturday in 2026 with the familiar clink of crates, the smell of fresh bread, and that old-school market buzz. From 7:30 a.m., the village-edge stretch on Szigligeti Road (Szigligeti út), heading toward Szigliget, turns into a lively, friendly marketplace where regulars and first-timers line up for seasonal finds and new vendors. Arrive hungry: there’s a surprise breakfast waiting for early birds.

When, where, how

The Hegymagas Market runs every Saturday, January through December 2026, from 7:30 a.m., at 8265 Hegymagas, Szigligeti Road (Szigligeti út). It’s easy to reach by car, bike, or bus. Card payments are accepted, dogs are welcome, there’s a kids’ corner, and breakfast keeps the morning rolling. Upcoming dates include 2026.05.16., 2026.05.23., 2026.05.30., and 2026.06.06., all in Hegymagas.

What’s in the baskets

Local producers bring chemical-free seasonal vegetables and fruits, artisanal cheeses, smoked meats, homemade syrups and jams, fresh bread, pastries, and a generous spread of gluten-free, diabetic-friendly, and vegan baked goods. You’ll also find honey, gingerbread, and additive-free cosmetics. Two new names join the community: Hegymagasi Marhaságok with fine smoked meats, and Levendula Porta with gorgeous cheeses.

Community at its core

This eco- and organic-focused producers’ market was launched and is run by locals with deep roots in the area. Beyond shopping, it’s a social morning: conversations spark over stalls, neighbors swap tips and recipes, visitors linger to rest under the trees, and newcomers quickly feel like regulars. Think laughter, haggling, hellos—and a slice of village life you’ll want to return to.

Stay a little longer

Hegymagas makes a perfect base to explore the St. George Hill (Szent György-hegy) wineries in the Badacsony wine region. The Kovács Guesthouse welcomes guests year-round. Nearby, boutique wineries invite you for tastings, tours, and vineyard views:
– A tiny estate on St. George Hill (Szent György-hegy) tends its 2×2-hectare vineyards with hands-on care, focusing—unusually for the area—on reds. Book ahead for a two-hour tasting of six top selections and cellar tours.
– A family-run winery farms 20 hectares on the southern slopes, with guesthouses available for agritourism stays.
– One of the hill’s smallest cellars crafts distinctive, small-batch artisanal wines from special local varieties in an unforgettable setting.
– Gilvesy Winery, founded by Róbert Gilvesy in 2012, pours volcanic wines; buy at the Vinothèque during opening hours or by appointment, with delivery and organized tastings on request.
– Horváth Cellar (Horváth Pince) has welcomed wine lovers since 1996, farming 18 hectares; alongside modern processing, some wines age longer in barrel.
– Nyári Cellar (Nyári Pince), near Tarányi Cellar (Tarányi Pince) and Lengyel Chapel (Lengyel-kápolna), serves wine by the glass and by the bottle with stunning views; tastings by booking.
– The St. George Hill (Szent György-hegy) Estate Vinothèque is open daily year-round; from spring to fall, the Viridárium kitchen serves food-and-wine travelers at the renewed estate center.
