Gyula turns into a cultural playground in 2026, with theater, music, literary nights, and festivals unfolding at the Ferenc Erkel Cultural Center and the Gyula Castle Theater’s chamber stage and outdoor venues. For nearly two months in summer, the Castle Theater runs an all-arts open-air marathon for every age and taste, pairing quality performances with smart entertainment. May Kickoff, June Teasers

Things spark early on May 19 with Liliom Produkció’s Meztelen igazság, a musical comedy. June tunes up with Mandala Dalszínház performing Hippolyt, the Butler (Hyppolit, a lakáj) on June 11, followed by Liliom Produkció returning June 12 with Meztelen igazság. Philosophy steps onstage June 28 in a one-part concert-theater piece: Plato: The Apology of Socrates (Platón: Szókratész védőbeszéde).

Folk, Tango, and Sharp-Witted Comedy

The Castle Theater’s summer wave hits June 28 with József Szigetvári’s Mestermunka, a folk dance theater work. July 3 slides into Katalin Thuróczy’s Argentine Tango (Argentin tangó). On July 4, the Castle Theater serves A Wife Begins at Forty (A feleség negyvennél kezdődik), keeping the laughs coming. Shakespeare lands July 11 as the Hungarian Chamber Theatre of Zenta (Zentai Magyar Kamaraszínház) stages Much Ado About Nothing (Sok hűhó semmiért), then pivots July 12 to Piaf–marche / Piaf–menet, an Édith Piaf homage.

July 16 brings Eisemann–Zágon–Nóti’s Hippolyt, the Butler (Hippolyt, a lakáj) by the Bartók Chamber Theatre of Dunaújváros. August 4, Zsigmond Móricz’s Barbarians (Barbárok) via Fonó Budai Zeneház. August 5 lifts spirits with Katalin Vajda’s Lovers of Ancona (Anconai szerelmesek), a musical comedy by Erkel Színház.
