Budapest’s Parliament Museum is rolling out free guided tours every Saturday for “A Thousand Years of Hungarian Legislation” (A magyar törvényhozás ezer éve), a constantly updated exhibition tracing the nation’s parliamentary roots. The 45-minute tours start at 10 a.m. from the Visitor Centre of the Hungarian Parliament Building at 1–3 Kossuth Lajos Square (Kossuth Lajos tér), 1055 Budapest, in the 5th District, Belváros–Lipótváros. Participation is free but requires registration, and each tour is capped at 30 people who must show the confirmation email.
What the exhibition covers
Arranged in eight chronological chapters, the show maps Hungarian parliamentary history from the Middle Ages to the democratic transition. The opening section spans the beginnings up to the era of the estate-based national assemblies. The second section follows developments up to 1918: the birth of the modern parliament from the reform diets to the creation of a representative assembly, and the consolidation of a new, principles-based parliamentary order. The third section covers the turbulent path from 1918 to 1990, capturing detours and restarts across revolutions, authoritarian turns, and postwar shifts.

Visitors can explore the essence of the Golden Bull (Aranybulla) and the April Laws through interactive features, and dive deeper into the 1918–1990 search-and-restart decades. Registration closes at 10 a.m. on the day before each tour via the provided email address.
