July 18: MiniPianoFest under the open sky

Saturday, July 18, 7:00 p.m., inner courtyard of the Eötvös Károly Library. A special summer evening in the city’s heart where pianos meet poetry. Modern classical, slow melodies, and delicate harmonies spill into the open courtyard, blending with nature and silence. Grab a beanbag, sip a drink, sketch, read, or just dream as the city noise dims and time slows. Three standout pianists set the mood, and this time literature joins the stage with short readings woven between musical blocks.
The aim: fuse contemporary piano performance with literary moments for a genre-bridging night that amplifies the library’s cultural mission. Open-air concert; in case of rain, it moves indoors. Free entry.
Performers include CHARMEY (Marc Charmet), a French-born pianist and composer trained at the École Normale de Musique in Paris, now based in Budapest. His modern classical and ambient sound nods to Erik Satie, Yann Tiersen, and Nils Frahm—minimalist motifs, emotional depth, space, and silence. His debut album Monotonies arrived in 2024, followed by Délicates in March 2025 on Siril Records. He founded Budapest’s Le Salon de Musique series for ambient/modern classical artists and often improvises live, guided by the room’s atmosphere. Reader: Anna Bognár, a Hungarian-Italian scholar of Giacomo Leopardi, multiple grant recipient and international literary award winner, with a 2016 poetry collection titled Not a Lullaby (Nem dajka dal). Currently a Hungarian Academy of Arts fellow, researching Miklós Hubay.
Also on the bill: Flora Kapeller, a Vienna-based pianist, composer, and media music creator, drawing inspiration from Hania Rani, Tigran Hamasyan, Hildur Guðnadóttir, and Ludwig Göransson. And Andor Sanderson, a contemporary pianist and performer, leading a literary-music evening shaped by silence, presence, and inner travel, where words and sounds merge into a gently undulating shared space. Reader: Mercédesz Kónya.
