Szőreg explodes in color on June 27, 2026, as growers in the rose heartland of Szeged celebrate their famed blooms with a day packed with parades, concerts, exhibitions, and open rose fields. Streets and squares dress up in floral finery, while visitors dive into culture, community, and all things rose across multiple venues in the 6771 Szeged, Szőreg district.
Morning kick-off: food, runs, and rose wisdom
The day starts at 08:00 in Monti Park with a cauldron-cooked goulash cook-off, while the Szőreg Rose Run sets off over several distances: half marathon, 10,000 m, 5,000 m, 2,000 m, and 500 m. From 09:00, the Cultural Center (Művelődési Ház) hosts expert talks on roses and sustainability: Growing standard roses (09:00); Rose plant protection (09:30); Designing a rose garden and companion plants (10:15); Rose: value, tradition, future (12:15); Collection gardens in hardy conditions (13:15); and a Gergely Márk variety showcase (14:30). At 10:00, Monti Park hosts The Most Beautiful Rosebud hobby dog show.
Afternoon into night: pageantry and music
Back at Monti Park, Rose Princesses and Princes are introduced at 17:00, followed at 18:00 by “Rózsás kedvünk szárba szökken,” a folk dance performance and open dance from Hatetudnád Tánctanoda. A Rose Festival greeting is at 19:00, followed by the For Szőreg Medal ceremony at 19:15. The stage lights up with Tamás Vastag at 20:00, Divák at 21:00, Bebe at 22:00, and Útközband’s street party at 23:00.
Exhibitions and open fields
Shop the Rose and Ornamental Plant Fair at Kocsis Nursery Flower Island (Kocsis Kertészet Virágsziget). Rose fields open for individual visits on Saturday at: András Bata Nursery (Bata András Faiskola), Hegedűs Nursery (Hegedűs Faiskola), Kocsis Flora Flower Nursery (Kocsis Flora Virágkertészet), Attila Tóth, and Tamás Tóth. A Pick-Your-Own Rose Weekend runs June 26 (Friday) 10:00–19:00 and June 27 (Saturday) 08:30–19:00 at Kocsis Flora Nursery’s rose field. The Cultural Center (Művelődési Ház) hosts Colors and Emotions, a painting and floral design exhibition.
