Eger rolls into summer with a stacked lineup from June 7 to 25 across multiple venues, blending music, theater, festivals, exhibitions, sports, and family-friendly happenings. From torchlit runs and bike parades to Baroque concerts and the nationwide Night of Museums, the historic Baroque city keeps every generation busy day and night.

June 12: Kicking Off With Music and Motion

Start with the Egri Andante Chamber Choir’s summer-welcoming concert. Then switch gears—literally—at the Night of Movement, when Eger joins nearly 100 locations nationwide. Pedal a 9.3-mile group ride through evening lights, rolling out at 7:30 p.m. from the Kemény Ferenc Sports Hall. Runners get their glow at the 2nd Eger Torchlit Running Fiesta, a social jog along the Archbishop’s Garden promenade. Performance can wait; this one’s about company, conversation, and torchlit views.

Books, Design and Organs

Literature fans can duck into the Tittel Pál Library for the 97th Festive Book Week, featuring historian Ignác Romsics’s new book and a buzzing Lyceum book tent (June 11–12). The EKKE Faculty of Arts Media and Design Institute unveils DIPLOMA ’26 exhibitions and thesis defenses for BA/MA Graphic Design (June 11–12, then June 15–19). Over at the Basilica, Friday-to-Sunday organ concerts (June 12–14 and June 19–21) feature Bach, Franck, Boëllmann, Dubois, and Vierne in 20–30 minute programs. Tickets are about $5.40 per person at the Basilica Visitor Center.

Archaeology Takes the Stage

The Dobó István Castle Museum joins the national Archaeology Days with interactive programs and talks (June 13–14), showing the journey from discovery to scholarly work across multiple sites in the fortress. Expect hands-on engagement for all ages amid one of Hungary’s most storied strongholds.

Exhibitions on Identity and Survival

The art contest “Me in the Global World” culminates in a show exploring identity and self-positioning across media (June 8–12 and June 15–19). At Bartakovics Béla Community House, photographer Sándor Kéri’s “My Numbers of Three” runs June 8–13 and June 15–20. “Survivors,” a photo exhibition honoring women who overcame cervical cancer, also spans those dates. At Agria Park Gallery, Kata Válóczi-Major’s “SELF” runs June 8–21, free of charge. The traveling sacred-life exhibit on St. Gianna Beretta Molla—patron of mothers, doctors, and the unborn—resides in the Basilica June 8–21.

June 13: Festivals, Walks and Night Vibes

Dobó István Square turns into a free festival ground with the Look Up Festival (Felnézek Fesztivál), a nondenominational evangelistic gathering aiming to bring hundreds of evangelists into city hubs to invite people to the weekend’s concerts. Laci Gáspár performs around 6 p.m., Azapeet at 7 p.m., and Gergő Oláh at 8:30 p.m. The event is free and open to all.
Elsewhere: savor Prosecco & Frittura—Italian vibes, bubbles, seafood, and summer ease. Head to BorZBár (No. 33, Soltész Terrace) for an acoustic night, and join the weekly Saturday 10 a.m. city walk from the Tourinform office through September 12. Hunt stories in “Metal-Sealed Tales,” a 3 p.m. thematic walk tracing bells, crowns, swords, and famous metalwork in the streets. Browse a curated wardrobe edit that prioritizes taste over volume. Meet local makers at the Summer-Welcoming Producers’ and Crafts Market in the Eger Market Hall—fresh veggies and fruit, homemade treats, and artisan goods included. Create a mandala and sink into a live handpan set in the Ottoman tent. Toast the Juhász Brothers Winery’s 30th at the Édenkert Chill & Grill Party inside the Valide Sultan Hamam ruins—bubbles, grills, cocktails, music, sunset, and all the right people.
From June 13–25, the A&B Multilingual Interdisciplinary Art Workshop’s “Disciples” exhibition lines Agria Park’s first floor by Hervis.

June 14: Choirs and Family Time

McDonald’s on Rákóczi Ferenc Road hosts Family Day, 10 a.m.–4 p.m., with an in-restaurant coupon perk. That evening, the Magis Choir of the Fényi Gyula Jesuit High School performs Made in Hungária, the hit musical by Miklós Fenyő, István Tasnádi, and Gábor Novai, in the Archbishop’s Palace courtyard.

June 16–18: Film, Poetry, Birds and Wine

Catch EKKE Cinema’s Breakfast on the Mountain, a 95-minute 2023 French comedy with Hungarian subtitles (June 16). Actor Pál Mácsai opens his “Workshop Visit” night twice on June 16 at Bartakovics Béla Community House ($13.50–$16.20), sharing how he crafts verse performance—Arany, Petőfi, Ady, Babits, Kosztolányi, Karinthy, Dsida, Attila József, Radnóti, Villon–Faludy, Nemes Nagy, Pilinszky, Ottó Orbán, Petri, Parti Nagy, István Kemény—through memory, sound, and thought. On June 17, the Agria Mixed Choir brings Sétáló énekszó, intimate street concerts that hush the weekday rush in the historic center. June 18 highlights woodpeckers with an accessible nature talk—kid-friendly activities included—plus a Szuromi Family Estate wine walk through 16th-century history inside the Castle: legends, vintages, and time travel, one glass at a time.

June 19–21: Music, Majorettes and Baroque

June 19 layers up: the Cabaret Band’s Börleszk goes acoustic, Kárpátia hits the open-air stage, and a lunar-themed city walk explores architecture and moon phases. The Tercina Ensemble’s Song of Songs concert is free at the Ferenc Farkas Music School, while a white-wine tasting from the Eger wine region pours five labels with a sommelier, plus savory pastries and cheeses—beanbags on the sun terrace if the weather smiles. The Eger Majorette Association parades downtown with the Szihalom Wind Band, then performs on Dobó Square with groups from age three to adult. Also free: terrace brass from the City Hall balcony as a Liszt Academy trombone quartet plays under artistic director Buda Gulyás. Night falls and Broadway Monkey lights vacation’s first big party with a MISSH concert. The Bükk Arts Days Baroque Festival returns across Eger and its surroundings (June 19–21), dovetailing beautifully with Basilica organ nights.

June 20: Night of Museums—Citywide

The 25th nationwide Night of Museums fills Eger. The Castle programs run all evening; the Valide Sultan Hamam ruins host their own slate; the Tittel Pál Library, the Archdiocesan Library, the Basilica, the Sándor Ziffer Gallery, and the Observatory all open with special content. Ride in vintage cars downtown and support heritage vehicles and local programs. The Dobó Museum also honors painter Ernő Nagy on his 100th birth anniversary with a centenary exhibit. Add In the Footsteps of King Solomon (Salamon király nyomában) by the Savaria Baroque Orchestra at the English Ladies’ Chapel, J. Haydn’s The Diva (Az énekesnő) by the Budapest Chamber Opera at Bartakovics Béla Community House, Trashmadonna’s New Wave time machine, and a city walk for good measure.
Outdoorsy types tackle the Beehive Stones Performance Hike (Kaptárkövek) in Bükkalja: rugged beauty, cliff-carved beehive stones, wine-country flavors, and three routes at 9.3, 18.6, and 31.1 miles. Magic seekers lean into St. John’s Eve with a witching-hour city walk, a Síkhegy picnic with the Lobbanáspont fire jugglers, and a Yoga Day warm-up celebrating balance and harmony on the global mat.

June 15–21: Movies Keep Rolling

Agria Park’s multiplex schedules premieres and a full snack bar (June 8–14, then June 15–21). On June 20, meet HOBO at Agria Cinema for To Be on the Road Is Happiness (Úton lenni boldogság), a 93-minute Hungarian road movie and audience talk.

Eger’s June is a swirl: books and bells, bubbles and Baroque, torches, trombones, and the hush of poetry in a city that knows how to fill its streets with song.
