June highlights: books, jazz, yoga, and aerial artistry

June 13 serves up a free evening chat with TV host Gabriella Jakupcsek at the Anna Grand Hotel—no ticket needed, but table reservations are advised. At the Katti Zoób Fashion Museum, the Literary Fashion Salon welcomes author Virág Vass at 5:00 PM the same day. Families can decamp to the VI. From Alpha to Omega (Alfáktól Omegáig) Family Picnic in town, while the Books-Wine-Jazz (Könyv-Bor-Jazz) Festival blends books, wine, and live jazz June 12–13.
Also June 13–14: Pole Artistic Hungary lands in Balatonfüred with a spectacular international pole and aerial competition—pole art, glamour, hoop, and hammock categories combine strength, elegance, and stagecraft in one gravity-warping show. The same weekend offers lake cruises, and throughout June 8–14 the town cinema rolls out its weekly movie program.
Namaste by the water on International Yoga Day: “Yoga on the Balaton Shore” takes over Tagore Promenade by the statue of István Széchenyi on Wednesday, June 17 at 5:30 PM. The next evening, a Summer-Welcome Concert unites the Bem Memorial Choir with Gabriella Csikhon and Attila Sári.
Art openings light up June 19. Graphic artist Milán Takács unveils “From Matter to Light” at the Arács Community House (Lóczy Lajos St. 62) at 5:00 PM. Museum educator Orsolya Nyitrai opens the show, with live folktronica–downtempo from Holb Levente “Zsörk.” Expect paper-based yet digitally created collages, experimental images, poster and logo design, plus analog photos. Open through August 24 during house hours (Mon, Thu 10:00–4:00; Wed 12:00–4:00). At 6:00 PM, Andrea Weichinger’s “Cloud and Water – Contemplation in the Landscape” opens at the Huray Villas, followed by a free guitar concert by Gáspár Thorpe. Bonus free events there: June 20 morning yoga and breathwork with the artist; June 26 Folly Arboretum presentation; September 18 a talk on Lake Balaton architecture by architect Miklós Weichinger; and September 25 BBC correspondent Nick Thorpe reports on the Carpathians and the Danube. The exhibition is free through September 27 during the neighboring Tourinform office hours.

Stand-up, museums at night, and guitar masters

June 20 is stacked: Eszter Ráskó and András Péter Kovács kick off summer with a Dumaszínház stand-up night at the Balaton Leisure and Conference Center, 7:00 PM, from $26.60. A sunset Chill Boat sails with panoramic views, good tunes, and cocktails. Night of Museums turns venues into after-dark playgrounds, while the Huray Villas host a “Story Picnic – Tales in the Grass” at 6:00 PM, featuring stories by Benedek Elek and Zsuzsanna Czipri (read by Edit Szabadi).
The Balatonfüred International Guitar Festival runs June 20–27, anchoring a week of virtuoso performances. Regular lake cruises and weekly cinema programs continue into late June, with another Chill Boat and a guided “Füred Rabbi” synagogue walk and city tour on June 27, including the House of Jewish Excellence.

July: salsa, comedy marathon, and the Anna Festival

Organist Gergely Rákász brings Mozart to the Evangelical Church on July 1 (from $16.60). July 3–5 brings more lake cruises, with “Túrajó” guided walks and the Füred Bike Adventure on July 4 (each from $10.80), plus the ever-popular sunset Chill Boat. July 6–12 offers cruise and cinema weeks; Hungarian Summer Salsa Festival pulses July 7–13. Party Boats (Disco Boats) sail July 9 and 16 from the pier.
The first-ever International Klezmer Festival hits July 10–12. Another Chill Boat sails July 11, the same day as the Allianz Bay Crossing and SUP Challenge. Outdoor theater arrives July 14 with Hyppolit, the Butler (Hyppolit, a lakáj), a two-act musical comedy, at the Open-Air Stage (from $16.40).

The Anna Festival spans July 21–26, culminating in the 201st Anna Ball on July 25—one of Hungary’s most elegant summer traditions. The yacht calendar sails alongside: the White Ribbon – Szabolcs Izsák Memorial Regatta (Fehér Szalag – Szabolcs Izsák Emlékverseny) on July 25, and the younger crew can board a Kids’ Boat the same day for pirates, magicians, treasure hunts, and games out on the water. Multiple All Stars comedy rosters and Hadházi’s “Dogs” round out the night. July 28 brings Be Good Till Death (Légy jó mindhalálig) by Pannon Castle Theatre at the Open-Air Stage (from $23.80).

August: Blue Ribbon, wine weeks, and tributes

The 58th Raiffeisen Blue Ribbon (Kékszalag) Grand Prix unfurls July 30–August 1, Europe’s largest round-the-lake regatta, while Disco Boats keep sailing. August is prime family time: more Kids’ Boats on August 1, 8, and 15, with a Chill Boat on each of those evenings. Weekly cinema and cruise programs return August 3–9 and 10–16.
The Hungarian Sailing Association’s Big Boat Championship runs August 6–9. Guided synagogue walks with the House of Jewish Excellence pop up August 7. Wine lovers settle in for Balatonfüred Wine Weeks, August 7–30, pouring regional labels along the promenade. Under the amphitheater stars, The Jungle Book plays August 11 (from $23.80), and A Wife Begins at Forty (A feleség negyvennél kezdődik) lands August 12 (from $24.90–$30.50). Party Boats sail August 13. On August 14, the Crazy Little Queen Tribute Band rocks the Open-Air Stage (from $27.90–$33.90).
