From lakeside bonfires and folk dance to jazz nights, boat parties, and hands-on kids’ camps, Keszthely is packing summer 2026 with events across the city and the shore of Lake Balaton. Expect festivals, guided nature excursions, museum activities, concerts, theater, creative workshops, family fun, and sports—many free, others ticketed from about $8 to $60.

Boat trips, nature, and a citywide adventure game

Daily through June, July, and beyond, Keszthely’s harbor runs sightseeing cruises and special sailings, including the Gyerekhajó for kids (think pirates, magicians, treasure hunts, and deck-top games) and late-night Bulihajó disco cruises departing the Hajóállomás (Boat Station). If you’d rather paddle or ride, the Little Balaton (Kis-Balaton) Visitor Center leads guided trips to Diás Island’s István Fekete Memorial and the rustic Matula hut by car, golf cart, or canoe—running June 16–21, June 23–28, June 30–July 5, July 7–12, and July 14–19. For land lovers, a self-guided outdoor city sightseeing adventure game runs in weekly waves: June 15–21, June 22–28, June 29–July 5, July 6–12, and July 13–19—designed to uncover local landmarks through playful challenges.

Saint John’s Days bring folk, dance, and moonlit crafts

Midsummer weekend lights up the Lake Balaton shore. On June 19, the Moon and Sun Creative Playhouse transforms the grassy lawn behind the Music Pavilion into an open-air art studio from 6–8 p.m., led by Adél Tóth—free and family-friendly. The Saint John’s Days (Szent Iván-napok) program takes over June 19–20 at the Music Pavilion (Zenepavilon) with free shows: Friday starts at 6:00 p.m. with Adél Tóth’s playhouse, 7:30 p.m. brings the Gyenes and Georgikon folk ensembles for a tradition-rich dance performance, 8:30 p.m. the Uljana Quartet reimagines pure-source Hungarian folk songs with world-music textures, and at 10:00 p.m. a Re-Folk dance house (Táncház) closes the night in communal dance. Saturday at 7:00 p.m., Lithuanian, Turkish, Czech, Polish, and Latvian ensembles showcase music and folk dance from across Europe.

Jazz night: Áron Tálas Trio at Balaton Theater (Balaton Színház)

On June 25 at 7:00 p.m., the JAZZ-a-vége club series kicks off properly with the Áron Tálas Trio at Balaton Theater (Balaton Színház). Tickets are $11. Tálas—Junior Prima, Gramofon, and Artisjus award-winner, multiple-time “pianist of the year,” and a Liszt Academy tutor—has collaborated with Lionel Loueke and Jorge Rossy, but his trio distills his boldest compositional voice. Expect jazz harmony and rhythmic complexity fused with folk, classical, and modern grooves, anchored in original material from Little Beggar (2016’s Hungarian jazz album of the year) and 2024’s internationally lauded New Questions, Old Answers. Lineup: Áron Tálas (piano), István Tóth (double bass), László Csízi (drums).

Fisherman’s Soup & Catfish Festival (Halászlé & Harcsafesztivál): lakeside flavors

June 26–28, the 3rd Fisherman’s Soup & Catfish Festival (III. Halászlé & Harcsafesztivál) brings a gastro weekend to the promenade beside Keszthely’s pier. Think Lake Balaton panoramas, summer beats, and steaming bowls of fisherman’s soup and catfish specialties—the perfect add-on to a sunset stroll or family day out.
