Győr’s beloved summer tradition brings the knight-king’s legend back to life on the Golden Shore (Aranypart) on June 27–28, 2026. It’s part history, part fairytale, and an all-out family festival, with hands-on craft demos, medieval shows, and playful surprises for every age. The city’s bond with Saint Ladislaus runs deep. In 1763, when Hungary’s most devastating earthquake struck Győr, the saint’s gilded reliquary bust was carried in procession; the end of the quake was attributed to his intercession. Bishop Ferenc Zichy then decreed “for all time” that a procession with the herma be held every June 27 in his honor.
Across the two festival days, Hungary’s top historical reenactment groups stage foot and mounted martial displays, while visitors try archery, medieval crafts, and experience everyday life in the Middle Ages. It’s all family-friendly, with craft workshops and themed games that revive the era of the knight-king. Warm-up events begin June 26, courtesy of the Saint Ladislaus Visitor Center and the Gyere Győrbe team.
