Art, Music, and Candlelit Classics

On July 11 at 17:00, painter Panni Bajzikné opens Fesztelen festmények (Unbuttoned Paintings) at Balaton Theatre (Balaton Színház), Simándy Hall, presented by the Károly Goldmark Cultural Center (Goldmark Károly Művelődési Központ) with musical support from the Bethlen Gábor Retirees’ Club Csillagfürt Choir. The free exhibition runs July 11–August 6.
The same night, Castles by Candlelight | The Four Seasons (Kastélyok gyertyafényben | A négy évszak) lights the Festetics Palace by candlelight, with tickets roughly $24.00–$37.30. On August 14, organist Gergely Rákász brings Mozart – Castle Edition to the Festetics Palace, priced around $24.00–$50.40. And on July 26 in the palace park, pianist-composer Csilla Szentpéteri & Band stage “A Légtornász és én,” a concert show under the stars.

Theater Highlights

On July 14 at 19:00, Pannon Castle Theatre (Pannon Várszínház) performs The Paul Street Boys (A Pál utcai fiúk), reframing Ferenc Molnár’s classic as the clash of young adults, with contemporary music intensifying its stakes—heroism, betrayal, fallibility, and patriotism pulsing through Nemecsek, Boka, and Feri Áts. With a strong ensemble and acoustic object work, the production is steered by director László Vándorfi. Tickets: $26.60 at Balaton Theatre’s main stage.
On August 4 at 19:00, the same company presents We Never Die (Sose halunk meg), reinventing Róbert Koltai’s cult film as a musical with László Dés’s score. Following Imi and the hanger-wielding Uncle Gyuszi through early 1960s Hungary, the 150-minute show (one intermission) traces a tender, wry journey populated by vivid characters. Tickets: $24.00 at Balaton Theatre.
Also on tap: Veres 1 Theatre (Veres 1 Színház) brings the comedy Steel Magnolias (Acélmagnóliák) on July 21 in Keszthely.

Festivals, Wine, and Beer

From July 15–19, the 11th Keszthely Beer Festival (XI. Keszthelyi Sörfesztivál) pours into town. From July 29–August 2, the lakeside Zala Wine Sign 2026 – Keszthely Wine Festival (Zalai Borcégér 2026 – Keszthelyi Borünnep) celebrates Zala and Hungarian wine for five days, a standing showcase that proves, winkingly, that good wine does need a sign—if it brings people together like this.

Lake, Nature, and Play

Sightseeing boat trips depart Keszthely weekly throughout July and August in rolling blocks: July 6–12, 13–19, 20–26, 27–August 2, August 3–9, and 10–16. In parallel, an outdoor city adventure game introduces Keszthely’s landmarks—same weekly windows across July and August. Nature lovers can head to the Kis-Balaton Visitor Center for guided excursions to Diás Island’s István Fekete Memorial and the Matula Hut, by private vehicle, golf cart, or canoe. Runs July 7–12, 14–19, 21–26, 28–August 2, August 4–9, and 11–16.

Big-Stage Nights at the Lake

The summer send-off concert series lands at Keszthely City Sports Ground (Keszthely Városi Sporttelep). On August 17 at 20:30, chart-topper Tamás Horváth headlines night one, with gates at 17:00, a warm-up band and DJ before the main set, and an afterparty to keep it going. Standing tickets $21.00; VIP terrace $79.80 with elevated, front-facing views and hosted drink service. The run continues August 18 with Majka – Bindzsisztán Tour, and August 19 with a Beton.Hofi headliner. One long Balaton breeze, three huge nights.
