From July 10–12, Derekegyház will spice up the summer at the Dr. Árpád Brusznyai Cultural House and Library Park with the 19th Pancake Festival and Village Day: free entry, community pancake-making, an eating contest, a pancake dance, and stage shows all weekend. Note: according to the organizers, the event date has not yet been confirmed on the portal; updated info can be requested or sent by email.
Friday: Opening, Blood Drive, World Folk Dance
Pancake-making and the official opening start at 12:00 p.m. At 3:00 p.m., there’s a blood drive at the Health Center. At 4:00 p.m., “In Bartók’s Footsteps in Békés County” folk music block; from 5:30 p.m., the Derekegyház Derce Children’s and Adult Folk Dance Group performs, followed by international dance guests: the Luhačovice Children’s Ensemble (Czech Republic), the Strzyżów Folk Dance Ensemble (Poland), and the Džūkste Folk Dance Group (Latvia). At 9:00 p.m., MD Fusion concert; at 10:30 p.m., Pince Jam.
Saturday: Sports, Mass, Special Guests
8:00 a.m.: Village Day Ping-Pong Tournament in the Derekegyház School gym. 3:00 p.m.: Village Day Mass at the Holy Trinity Church. In the park in front of the Cultural Center at 4:00 p.m., Rita Bodrogközy’s interactive children’s show with lots of games and fun. From 5:00 p.m., an awards ceremony at the Derekegyház Sports Club, with performances by a team from the Csongrád-Csanád County Social Institution, as well as the János Bárdos Folk Song Circle and the Musical Zither Orchestra. 6:00 p.m.: Tamás F. Sipos; 7:30 p.m.: Csaba Vastag (mini concert); 9:00 p.m.: Alibi Band. All day: horse-drawn carriage rides on Friday; on Saturday: artisans, bouncy castle, carousel, electric mini-cars, festival train, face painting, the Wandering Charitable Association’s horseshoeing nook, cotton candy, airsoft. Plus a buffet, stall and craft market, ear piercing, magnetic therapy 2:00–4:00 p.m.
Sunday: Cooking Contest and Pálinka Tasting
8:00 a.m.: start of the Derekegyház cooking contest and pálinka tasting. From 9:00 a.m., the Tornyos Tambura Band plays; 10:00 a.m.: Culture Park Playhouse; 1:00 p.m.: awards ceremony. Ongoing side programs: pancake dance, community cooking, and pancake competitions.
