Back in 1994, the Schola Gregoriana Budapestiensis was formed to revive Gregorian chant in Hungary. Their mission: to teach, spread, and bring these ancient melodies back into the liturgy. It was clear that this required a dedicated ensemble, so the group started under the umbrella of the newly founded Gregorian Society (Gregorián Társaság).
Special Mass for Blessed Charles
On October 21, 2025, Budapest will echo with centuries-old songs at a special mass in the Franciscan Church on Ferenciek Square (Ferenciek tere), marking the feast of Blessed Charles IV. The service starts at 6:30 pm and features classic pieces: In. Ego clamavi, Gr. Salvum fac, Al. Lauda, Of. Meditabor, and Co. Beatus servus, along with the complete Gregorian Mass XI (Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus Dei).
Concert in Downtown Budapest
That same night, the 5th district’s Belváros-Lipótváros will also host a commemorative concert, weaving Gregorian music deep into the heart of the city.
