This autumn break, Sopron and its surroundings are buzzing with creative, lively programs designed for all ages. Whether you crave folklore, magic, arts and crafts, or spooky fun, there’s something for everyone in this packed lineup of events.
Magical Afternoon and Fireside Dancing
On October 26, the Quarry in Fertőrákos (Kőfejtő) transforms into a vibrant festival ground. Families can enjoy traditional folk games, face painting, crafts, pumpkin carving (registration required), and capture seasonal memories at the autumn photo corner. As dusk falls, join the Lövő Band (Lövői Zenekar) for a fireside dance—where violin melodies swirl with the flames, inviting everyone, from little ones to experienced dancers, to join in. All of this is included with the theme park entry ticket.
Become a Little Fashion Designer
At the Sopron Lutheran Museum (Evangélikus Múzeum) on October 27, kids get a chance to step into the world of fashion. Youngsters explore mixing colors and patterns, practice clothing design, and enjoy the satisfaction of creating something themselves. Led by museum staff member Zsófia Hutkainé Burián, the session sharpens dexterity, aesthetic sense, and self-expression.
Animal Sleuths Hit the Old Town
Also on October 27, an “animal detective” adventure takes you through Sopron’s historic center. Map in hand, families scout for animal motifs on facades and public sculptures—think mother wolf, tongue-poking lions, wise owls, ravens, and even a panther. The 1.5-hour walk starts at Tourinform Sopron (Szent György utca 2). Admission is $4 per person, free for children, and participants receive a worksheet (bring a pen!). Kids ages 10–14 are likely to enjoy it most; families with the correct answers get a prize at the end.
Interactive Magic Show with András Csirmaz
On October 28 at GYIK Event Center (GYIK Rendezvényház), magician András Csirmaz brings laughter, amazement, and interactive magic tricks. Spectators become apprentice wizards for a day, making unforgettable memories for both kids and adults.
Discover Autumn Nature and Migrating Birds
October 29 is nature day for 6–10-year-olds and their caregivers, starting at GYIK Event Center (GYIK Rendezvényház). Explore the wonders of autumn with guided birdwatching using binoculars in Erzsébet Park, fun activities about animals preparing for hibernation, and hands-on materials introducing the flora and fauna of Erzsébet Park and the Lőverek area. Entry is $4, free for kids under 2 and their accompanying adults.
Spooky LEGO and Minecraft Workshops
Halloween, October 30, is all about creative construction. At GYIK Event Center (GYIK Rendezvényház), a LEGO workshop challenges children to defend against zombie attacks for $9 per child (registration required, limited spots). Over at Logiscool Sopron, Minecraft fans ages 7–12 can create their own haunted world, learn Redstone basics, and problem-solve together for $31 each. Costumes are welcome but not required, and kids can use their own Minecraft accounts or borrow one from the school.
Eszterháza Halloween Carnival
On October 31 at Eszterháza Palace in Fertőd (Eszterházi-kastély), families can enjoy a full day of activities: Crafts market (10 a.m. to 9 p.m.), treasure hunts in the English Park ($2.60), an autumn play corner (free), painting and lantern workshops ($6.60 and $10.60), and guided tours from basement to attic. The autumn photo corner adds cozy highlights, and after 5 p.m., the brilliantly lit Light Park requires a separate ticket ($7.00). Be sure to visit the candy collection point at the Ornamental Gate from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.!
Wrap-Up
From October 26 to November 2, Sopron is alive with adventures, games, and memorable workshops—making this autumn break unmissable for kids and families alike.
