Balatonfüred rolls into summer with a packed 2026 program that stretches from sail-unfurling ceremonies and elite cycling to vintage car glamour, wine-soaked weekends, open-air theater, jazz, klezmer, and marathon stand-up. Across multiple venues around the lakefront city, expect festivals, concerts, exhibitions, gastronomic pop-ups, family days, and a steady stream of boat tours and cinema screenings to set the tone from May through August.

Sailing season starts, peloton sweeps through

The Sail Unfurling Ceremony (Vitorlabontó) and Season-Opening Regatta take over Balatonfüred on May 16, a traditional signal that sailing season is officially open on Lake Balaton. The next day, May 17, the Tour de Hongrie peloton cuts through the city around 14:26. Cyclists hit Highway 71, swing from the roundabout by Tesco toward Fürdő Street, then peel off at the next roundabout toward Balatonszőlős—brief, fast, and hard to miss if you’re curbside.

Vintage beauty and off-road grit

From May 15–17, the Balatonfüred Concours d’Elegance dresses the streets with gleaming pre-war curves and post-war icons, a head-turning beauty contest for vintage automobiles. The same weekend, the Balaton Mountain Bike Tour – Balaton Uplands Bike Festival (Balaton Mountainbike Túra – Balaton-felvidéki Bringafesztivál) brings riders into the uplands for a trail-ready celebration of climbing legs and dusty smiles.

Boats and big screen on repeat

Boat excursions and the Balatonfüred cinema program run in neat weekly blocks throughout late spring and summer: May 11–17, May 18–24, May 25–31, and continuing in June and July in similar weekly slices, right through early August. Expect daytime cruises, sunset sails, and a rotating film slate to fill downtime between headline events.

Comedy, porcelain, and fish-and-wine

May 21 brings Tibor Bödőcs to the Balatonfüred Congress Center for two stand-up sets at 18:00 and 20:30. On May 22 at 17:00, the Esterházy Palace opens a porcelain-doll exhibition, “Mere souls poured into rigid bodies,” curated around the 200-year story of porcelain doll-making, timed to Mother’s Day and Children’s Day. Katalin Tarnai of the Arácsi Szalon(ka) Cultural Association opens the show; soprano Rita Rábaközi performs. The exhibition runs daily 10:00–18:00 through June 14 with paid entry. Also May 22–25: the Lake Fish and Wine Festival (Balatoni Hal- és Borünnep) pairs lake fish with local wines for a classic lakeside indulgence.

Stage nights and Children’s Day

On May 30, the Spinoza Theatre stages Rewrite it, Shakespeare! (Írd újra, Shakespeare!) at the House of Jewish Excellence, 18:00 start, with actor Antal Cserna, directed by András Surányi, written by Gábor Lackó, dramaturgy by Lili Fabacsovics. May 30–31 is a full Children’s Day weekend, topped off by a dedicated Children’s Day cruise on May 31.

June: books, jazz, film—and Pilates

June opens with more stroll cruises and films, then June 6–7 brings Pilates Fest in Balatonfüred alongside Family Day at Koloska Valley on June 6. On June 7, the Congress Center hosts Poor Rich People (Szegény gazdagok). The Book-Wine-Jazz Festival (Könyv-Bor-Jazz) runs June 11–14, blending literature, wine, and live jazz. June 18–20, the Hungarian Motion Picture Festival (Magyar Mozgókép Fesztivál) puts Hungarian cinema in focus. A free but registration-only family picnic, From Alphas to Omegas (VI. Alfáktól Omegáig), lands on June 13 at Gapa Terrace and Park Forest, Száka Dűlő.

Guitars, stand-up, and city walks

The Balatonfüred International Guitar Festival strums from June 20–27. Comedy ramps up June 20 with András Péter Kovács and Eszter Ráskó at the Dumaszínház setup in the Balaton Leisure and Conference Center—prices listed in HUF translate roughly to $24. July follows with organ virtuoso Gergely Rákász’s MOZART concert on July 1 at the Evangelical Church (about $16), hiking and cycling “Túrajó” experiences on July 4 (about $10 each), and the 1st Hungarian International Klezmer Festival, July 10–12. July 11 delivers the Allianz Bay Crossing and SUP Challenge across the lake.

Dumafüred, Anna Festival, and a stacked July

From July 17–26, Dumafüred 2026 brings a barrage of stand-up sets by Hungary’s best: István Dombóvári, László Hadházi, András Péter Kovács, Gergely Litkai, Eszter Ráskó, Zoltán Kőhalmi, Dániel Mogács, Dávid Dennis Musimbe, and more. Shows include all-star mixes, Duma Jam, Sátántangó, Kutyák, and science-tinged riffs like The Brain of the World (A VILÁG ESZE). Ticket ranges run roughly $20–$30 depending on the act. Meanwhile, the Anna Festival (Anna Fesztivál) runs July 21–26, culminating in the 201st Anna Ball (Anna-bál) on July 25—one of Hungary’s most storied balls—paired with the White Ribbon – Szabolcs Izsák Memorial Regatta (Fehér Szalag – Izsák Szabolcs Emlékverseny) the same day. Art lovers can browse Füred Art Week, July 24–26.

Sailing crowns and August nights

The 58th Raiffeisen Blue Ribbon Grand Prix (Kékszalag), Europe’s biggest round-the-lake regatta, flies from July 30–August 1. Then August keeps pace: the Hungarian Sailing Federation’s Big-Boat Championship (August 6–9), and the long-running Balatonfüred Wine Weeks from August 7–30, turning Tagore Promenade into a nightly tasting lane.

Open-air theater and big hits on stage

Open-air productions dot August: The Jungle Book (A dzsungel könyve) on August 11; A Wife Starts at Forty (A FELESÉG NEGYVENNÉL KEZDŐDIK) on August 12 (about $24–$29); Crazy Little Queen Tribute Band on August 14 ($27–$32); Attila Kökény & Viktor Rakonczai’s I See You Again… (Újra látlak…) on August 15 (about $47). August 18 brings The Paul Street Boys (A Pál utcai fiúk). On August 21, Best of Hungária – Budapest Rock ’n’ Roll Band rocks the open-air stage ($27–$35).

Finish line on two wheels

Between August 10–23, boat cruises and cinema continue in weekly runs, and on August 23, the Summer Bike Tour in Balatonfüred (Nyári Bringatúra Balatonfüreden) cycles summer out with a community ride—closing a season that started with sails, sped up with a peloton, and never really hit the brakes.
