Balatonlelle is gearing up for a packed calendar in October and early November 2025. Whether you’re a culture vulture, a foodie, a parent seeking memorable family experiences, or a Halloween fanatic, this southern Balaton town is about to become your favorite fall getaway. Beyond the classic lakeside relaxation, Balatonlelle and its surroundings promise concerts, creative family programs, tasty local food, kid-friendly adventures, and quirky festivals. Here’s what you really shouldn’t miss.
Remembering the Heroes of 1956
It all starts on October 22, when the town gathers to honor the heroes of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. An evening ceremony at Peace Park (Béke Park) features historian Dr. Emőke Kovács, followed by a commemorative show with performances by local eighth-graders at the community center. The solemn mood continues into October 23, with a special family “Message of Freedom” detective game. Participants solve mysterious clues at Balatonlelle’s best-loved spots, tracing the spirit of 1956 in an active, playful way. Teams can join anytime between 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm, with a simple task sheet guiding the quest—think escape room, but outdoors. It’s free, registration is optional, and successful detectives even get a small prize.
Challenge Yourself, Nordic Walk, and Fall Festivals
October 24 is all about the Kishegy Challenge, an autumn adventure trek up Kishegy Hill, featuring expert-led Nordic walking or a mini train ride for those less inclined to break a sweat. At the panoramic lookout, playful activities and a wine tasting await. The full package, including all activities, food, and the train, costs around $2.75 per person. Make sure to preregister, as spots are limited for the train and Nordic walking equipment! Great for families, friend groups, retirees, or anyone looking to enjoy a day filled with movement and laughter.
Pumpkin Fever Hits Balatonlelle
October 25 kicks off with the “PERFECT Day” (TÖKéletes Nap) Family Run—a cheerful, one-kilometer fun run starting at 10 a.m. from the open-air stage. Every finisher earns a medal! Free to join, but registration is required. Next up: the irresistible Pumpkin Festival (Tökfesztivál) in Rádpuszta, where pumpkin carving contests, a craft market, music, balloon animals, face painting, pony rides, a petting zoo, horse carriage rides, autumn dishes, and photo opportunity walls promise a colorful, flavorful day for all ages. The festival sprawls across the thatched-roof inn (csárda), with extra surprises in store.
Back in town at the open-air stage, another “PERFECT Day” event features craft stalls, local food and drink, and lively contests: Balatonlelle’s best dish, best pumpkin carver, and most athletic family all get a chance to shine.
Bargain Hunting and Adventures for All
October 26 is market day! Hunt for treasures from times past at the open-air stage’s flea market and antique fair, soaking up the lively atmosphere as you browse for quirky finds.
Rádpuszta returns to the spotlight too, with the Rádpuszta Adventure Wheel (Rádpusztai Kalandkerék), an unforgettable family experience featuring a petting zoo, pumpkin carving, craft workshops, a mega pirate-themed bouncy castle, delicious food, and autumn photo spots. Take the mini train from Balatonlelle for only $2.75 per person (seats are limited, so register early), or arrive by car or bike whenever you’re ready.
Nobility, Wine Hunts, and Cemetery Mysteries
History buffs should mark October 27 to explore the history of the noble Szalay family at their former mansion (now the community center). Discover the eccentric lives of the local gentry and the unusual connection between the Szalays, an orangutan named Marco, and Tuzla the bear.
Feeling competitive? Set out on the Balatonlelle Winehunt (Borvadászat) on October 28. Find the hidden envelopes scattered throughout town, snap a photo of their contents, share it on Facebook (tagging Visit Balatonlelle), and send it via Messenger. Every successful “wine hunter” wins a bottle of delicious wine, ready for pickup on the agreed date.
Daredevils won’t want to miss the atmospheric, torchlit Crypt Walk through Balatonlelle Cemetery on October 29. Local guide Péter Kovács brings legends and stories to life, culminating at the grave of the famous Szalay family. Meet at the community house entrance at 4 p.m. for a walk guaranteed to give you goosebumps.
Halloween Thrills and Remembrance
On October 30, grab your flashlight, put on your creepiest costume, and brave haunted Peace Park (Béke Park) for a night of ghost and bat hunting with friends and family. The park transforms into a spooky adventure park—don’t forget your flashlight!
The party doesn’t stop on November 1. Dance lovers and night owls can party at the MYSTECH Halloween Edition at Y Club, headlined by top DJs and Halloween décor for those 16 and over.
Finally, for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, Balatonlelle offers a quiet, touching program inviting everyone to hang anonymous messages or memories for lost loved ones on the Tree of Remembrance near the open-air stage. Write your own note or make a drawing, hang it on the tree, and light a candle beneath it—a collective remembrance, together in silence, for those who are missed.
