Hungary’s grand Baroque marvel, the Royal Palace of Gödöllő (Gödöllői Királyi Kastély), never seems to run out of surprises. Open year-round, this enchanting palace caters to just about every taste: music lovers, family explorers, theater buffs, fashionistas, aspiring yogis, and the simply curious.
Music, Theater and Literary Nights
The calendar for 2025-2026 is overflowing. October kicks off the highly anticipated 24th Liszt Festival (Liszt Fesztivál), featuring virtuoso Muza Rubackyte from Lithuania, concerts showcasing young Hungarian talent, and award-winning pianist Povilas Norkunas. There’s also an evening devoted to the letter correspondence of Clara and Robert Schumann, blending music and literature. Come November, violinist Barnabás Kelemen and pianist József Balog headline with dazzling sonatas, and the Budavár Chamber Orchestra (Budavári Kamarazenekar) celebrates Mozart’s underrated contemporaries.
Family Fun, Fashion, and Peculiar Histories
Autumn puts museums in the spotlight. The Kids’ Club (Kastélylurkók Klubja) invites children to play as royal heirs, while the “Újramódi” event brings fashion and family guides into the Baroque halls. Embark on a fabric hunt to discover what adorned the royal rooms, or snoop out secrets of noblewomen’s wardrobes. Exceptional women’s ceremonial gowns from the last royal coronation receive an exclusive highlight.
Shows, Comedy, and Special Holidays
The stage pulses with dramatic tales: “Piros esőt kortyolt a föld” (“The Earth Sipped Red Rain”) presents a gripping wartime theater piece, while “EMBERI BESTIÁK” (“Human Beasts”) peeks into the world of serial killers. Comedy fans can catch a pre-New Year’s cabaret, Zorán’s tour, a musical grandma, and crime comedies like “Dámák a pakliban” (“Dames in the Deck”).
Seasonal Highlights
Royal Christmas celebrations bring December sparkle, and concerts by Nikolas Takács, Csaba & Tamás Vastag, or Zoltán Miller keep the party going through Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.
