when: 2026. February 21., Saturday

2026 brings the 7th Boglart Festival to the shores of Lake Balaton, running August 26–30 at Babel Camp, 8630 Balatonboglár, Szabadság utca 28. It’s part festival, part folk music course, part music industry forum, and part showcase: days are for learning, nights for concerts across two stages, followed by a folk pub dance party that rolls into sunrise.

Camp by Day, Concerts by Night

Boglart’s magic is the blend. It’s not just a concert series but an inspiring creative space and community experience where study, music, and the Balaton summer fall into easy harmony. The format stands out in both Hungary and the international circuit by fusing a music camp with a festival vibe. Daytime workshops span Moldavian and string folk techniques to industry know-how; many performers also teach, breaking down the wall between stage and audience.

First Names, Late Nights

Freshly announced acts include Belgium’s Enara Navaira, Senegal’s Afrikora, Istria’s Veja, and from Hungary, Okos Viola and Obadu, plus the festival’s home band, Góbé. Each concert evening closes with a táncház, then slides into a world-electronic afterglow.

Showcase and Tickets

After last year’s buzz, the showcase block returns as a meeting ground for Hungarian and international professionals. The first performers drop in the second half of November, and until then festival passes, combo passes, 48-hour tickets, and day tickets are on sale at very low prices. Discounted tickets are now available for under-18s, over-64s, and teachers. If you’re joining the course or showcase and eligible for discounts, combine discounted passes/day tickets with course passes/day tickets. Entry is free for kids under 10.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with free entry for kids under 10 and discounts for under-18s, making it easy to bring the whole crew
+
Daytime workshops and night concerts mean something for every age and energy level, from learning instruments to dancing till late
+
Lake Balaton setting adds beach time and swim breaks, great for families and casual downtime
+
Mix of international acts (Belgium, Senegal, Istria) and Hungarian bands gives a global sampler without leaving one venue
+
Location in Balatonboglár is a known resort town to many Europeans, and it’s a popular Hungarian summer spot foreigners often visit
+
No Hungarian required for enjoying concerts and dances; music and táncház are super participatory and visual, and many artists speak English
+
Easy enough to reach: trains run from Budapest to Balatonboglár, local buses connect towns around the lake, and driving is straightforward with parking typical of resort areas - Not a globally famous brand-name festival, so U.S. friends may not recognize it and trip-planning info can be thinner than for major events
Cons
Balatonboglár is less known to Americans than Budapest or Lake Bled–type hotspots, so you’ll do a bit more DIY research
Some workshops or announcements may be Hungarian-first, so English details could lag and you might miss nuances in classes
Compared to big U.S./EU world-music festivals, it’s smaller and more niche—awesome for intimacy, but less star-power and amenities
