Mother Hulda (Holle anyó)

From October 18 to December 31, 2025, the circus conjures one of the most beloved Grimm tales: Mother Hulda (Holle anyó), a vivid coming‑of‑age quest about two girls, their trials beyond the ordinary, and the choices that shape them. This new version is more intimate and modern, recasting the story as two sisters learning what it truly means to be siblings—accepting each other, differences and all—through daring tests staged as spectacular circus choreography.
The message is clear and timely: be open to another’s truth, observe it, understand it, find the good in it, build it into yourself, then stand up for your own. That mutual openness, acceptance, and love make the world better.
Director Péter Fekete’s staging is more than a children’s fable: it carries deep initiation symbolism—growing up, making independent moral choices, and recognizing the cosmic order of justice.
The lead roles are performed by a Brazilian and a Russian female acrobat, with three Hungarian clowns adding mischief and heart. Sharing the ring: artists from China, Uzbekistan, Germany, Hungary, Russia, and Ukraine; plus horses, farm animals, and exotic creatures. Expect dazzling scenes and soul-stirring songs performed by Jászai Mari and Kossuth Prize–winning actors.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with classic circus thrills, animals, and a Grimm tale that kids and grandparents both “get”
+
Mother Hulda’s coming‑of‑age story feels universal, even if you don’t know the original, thanks to visual storytelling and music
+
Capital Circus of Budapest is a historic, legit venue locals love—cool way to tap into real Budapest culture
+
Big international lineup (artists from multiple countries) means world‑class acts without needing Hungarian
+
Easy to reach: it’s by City Park/Zoo; M1 metro (Széchenyi fürdő) or short rideshares; driving/parking doable
+
The January 2026 International Circus Festival is a top‑tier global event—comparable to Monte‑Carlo quality at often friendlier prices
+
Online ticketing and multiple show options (including late‑night, gala, winners’ run) make planning simple - Circus as an artform isn’t as globally hyped as, say, Paris cabaret or London musicals, so foreign name recognition is lower
Cons
Some narration/signage may be Hungarian‑only at regular shows; non‑speakers might miss nuances outside the festival
Holiday timing (late Dec) and festival week (early Jan) can mean sell‑outs and higher accommodation costs
Compared with Vegas or Orlando entertainment, production scale is smaller—this is about artistry over blockbuster spectacle
