The Hungarian National Gallery is rolling out a packed 2026 program of guided tours in Hungarian and English across its permanent and temporary exhibitions at 2 Szent György Square (Szent György tér 2). January Highlights
January kicks off on 01.16.2026 with “Az ember a paletta mögött,” led by art historian Gergely Barki in Budapest, followed the same day by Visita guidata in italiano. On 01.17, “Lázadó formák, merész színek – Tihanyi Lajos’s art (Tihanyi Lajos művészete)” spotlights the restless innovator, alongside “Betonba hímezve,” a subjective tour by writer Rita Halász, plus “Alkoss! – Absztrakt élményfestés.” The 01.18 lineup features “Nude sculptures from the turn of the century (Aktszobrok a századfordulóról)” and another Tihanyi-focused tour. An online guide to the Tihanyi show arrives 01.22. Fresh angles on Tihanyi continue 01.23 and 01.29, with 01.24 offering “Adventure in the Gallery – Unusual faces (Kaland a Galériában – Különös arcok)” and Barki’s talk “Two or nothing. Doublings and gaps in the oeuvre of Lajos Tihanyi (Kettő vagy egy sem. Duplázások és hiátusok Tihanyi Lajos életművében).” On 01.25, the Tihanyi tour includes sign-language interpretation. Families get “Toddlers – Snowflake Dance (Tipegők – Hópihe tánc)” on 01.27, kids’ workshops “Recolor it! February opens 02.01 with “The Eight – Scheduled guided tour (Nyolcak – Előre meghirdetett tárlatvezetés).” On 02.05, “Lajos Tihanyi, the restless charmer (Tihanyi Lajos, a nyughatatlan sármőr)” is guided by Nóra Winkler and Tünde Topor, while “Mama, look! – The beauty of the body (Mama, nézd! – A test szépsége)” returns for families. On 02.06, Rita Halász leads “Budapest–Berlin–Paris. Lajos Tihanyi’s path to abstraction (Budapest–Berlin–Párizs. Tihanyi Lajos útja az absztrakcióig),” tracing Tihanyi’s path to abstraction. The 02.07 slate includes “Create! – Naked reality (Alkoss! – Meztelen valóság),” another Tihanyi deep dive, and “The art of Adolf Fényes (Fényes Adolf művészete).” On 02.08, explore the building from “From the crypt to the dome (Kriptától a kupoláig)” and revisit Tihanyi.
