Ferocious laughs are coming to Budapest as RAM-Art Színház stages Fat Pig – Kövér disznó multiple times in 2025, with a flagship performance on Friday, December 19 at 19:00. Beloved star Andrea Balázs leads the cast, reuniting with director Árpád Iványi and Barnabás Réti, the original team behind the hit Torture (Tortúra/Misery), promising another memorable night for theater fans. The comedy plays in two parts, running about 130 minutes at 1133 Budapest, Kárpát Street (Kárpát utca) 23–25.

Cast and Creative

Directed by Árpád Iványi, with a script by Barnabás Réti. Andrea Balázs is Helen, Tibor Pásztor plays Tom, Szilvia Lilla Tóth is Jeannie, and Barnabás Réti appears as Carter.

Story

Tom, a rising corporate employee, falls for the sharp-tongued, wickedly funny Helen, whose fuller figure defies mainstream beauty standards. As their relationship deepens, relentless office jokes and jabs about Helen’s body poison their daily lives, testing Tom’s faith and loyalty.

Why It Matters

Neil LaBute’s biting satire probes modern beauty ideals, asking how much looks determine success and recognition—and how far people will reshape themselves to fit in. The celebrated American playwright and screenwriter’s acclaimed comedy premieres on a Hungarian stage for the first time. Originally debuting Off-Broadway in 2004, Fat Pig was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Comedy.

Pros
+
Family-friendly-ish if your teens are mature—edgy jokes but big themes about body image spark good conversations
+
Recognizable American play (Neil LaBute), so U.S. visitors will likely know or find it relatable
+
English-speakers may already know “Fat Pig,” making the satire and plot easy to follow even in translation
+
Budapest is a major, well-known European city with plenty to do before/after the show
+
Venue location (1133 Kárpát utca) is reachable by Budapest public transport and easy by taxi/Bolt
+
Affordable compared to Broadway/West End prices, with intimate staging that puts you close to the actors
+
Great local cast/creative team with a track record—promises a polished, high-energy night out - Not ideal for small kids; adult language and bullying themes can be heavy
Cons
Hungarian-language production; without supertitles, non-Hungarian speakers may miss nuances
RAM-Art Színház isn’t a globally famous venue, so expectations should be set to “local gem,” not landmark theater
Compared to English-language productions in London/NYC, accessibility for U.S. tourists is lower unless you speak some Hungarian
