Color It Again! Museum Workshop for Kids

January 14, 21, 28, 2026, 4:00–5:30 p.m.

January’s Color It Again! club invites children on a thrilling quest: the Gallery’s spaces hum with mysterious stories, so only the sharpest sleuths will do. Young detectives track a great painter, uncovering the secrets of Lajos Tihanyi. They’ll closely examine dozens of works, hunting for every hidden detail that matters. If they’re clever, the pieces click and the riddle opens. Alongside the investigation, hands-on making takes center stage: kids “forge” paintings as part of the detective work, craft a composite sketch, and experiment with photo manipulation.

Children attend independently, without guardians. After the session, staff will escort the group back to the info desk between 5:30 and 5:40 p.m.

Meeting point: information desk
Age: 6–12

Pros
+
Super affordable at about $6.80 per session, so it’s easy to try without a big commitment
+
Family-friendly vibe with a 6–12 age range and structured supervision, even escorting kids back to the info desk after
+
Hands-on, creative mystery theme keeps kids engaged—detective work, “forging” paintings, and photo experiments feel fresh and fun
+
Held at the Hungarian National Gallery, so kids explore real galleries while parents can enjoy nearby sights on Castle Hill
+
No need to book an entire course—each Wednesday session stands on its own, so you can drop in on your travel dates
+
Small group (max 15) means personal attention and a calmer atmosphere than big tourist activities
+
Easy to pair with a day in Buda Castle District, a major, well-known area for foreign visitors - Instructions and activities may be primarily in Hungarian, so non-Hungarian-speaking kids might need extra guidance
Cons
Children attend without guardians, which could be a downside if your kid isn’t comfortable separating in a new country
Getting there involves Castle District logistics; public transit plus a walk or uphill segments/parking limits can be a hassle
Lajos Tihanyi isn’t widely known in the U.S., so the art-historical hook might feel less familiar compared with similar kids’ programs at big-name museums back home
