January Sessions and Theme
Color It Again! – kids’ museum workshop runs on January 7, 14, 21, and 28, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. This month’s adventure turns the Gallery into a mystery zone and calls for the sharpest detectives. Young sleuths track a great painter, unraveling the secrets of Lajos Tihanyi. They’ll closely examine dozens of his works, hunt for hidden details across canvases, and piece together the puzzle until the big reveal.
Hands-on Detective Art
Investigation meets creation: participants “forge” paintings, make a composite sketch, and experiment with photo manipulation as part of the detective work.

Pros
+
Great for kids 6–12 with hands-on detective art vibes, so it’s truly family-friendly even if parents don’t attend
+
Affordable at about $7 per session, so easy to fit into a travel budget
+
Runs on multiple Wednesdays in January, so you can pick a date that fits your itinerary
+
Hosted at the Hungarian National Gallery in Buda Castle area—an iconic, scenic spot many tourists already plan to visit
+
No deep Hungarian knowledge needed for kids; activities are visual and guided, and staff at major museums often speak some English
+
Easy access: Buda Castle area is reachable by bus, funicular, or a short uphill walk/taxi; driving/ride-share works too, with nearby parking options
+
Unique twist compared with standard kids’ museum programs—mixes art with “detective” tasks and photo manipulation, which may feel fresher than typical craft hours
- Kids must attend without a parent, which may worry some visiting families or younger children
Cons
–
Lajos Tihanyi isn’t a household name in the U.S., so the theme might feel less instantly exciting than, say, a Van Gogh or Monet workshop
–
The Buda Castle location is famous, but the specific workshop may be lesser-known to foreign visitors, so advance info in English might be limited
–
Only 90 minutes and capped at 15 kids; spots could fill fast, and a single short session may feel too brief compared with all-day children’s museums in the U.S.
