The Hungarian National Gallery in Budapest is rolling out a packed lineup for school-age kids, with playful guided tours, monthly creative workshops, and clubs inspired by stories, drama, animation, and the natural world. The museum educators put hands-on fun first: on request, the gallery visit can be followed by a studio session where children explore themes in fresh ways while picking up practical techniques. Programs run at Szent György Square (Szent György tér) 2, 1014 Budapest, and dates span January to February 2026, with more throughout the year.
Color It Again! Detective Workshop for Kids
On January 14, 21, and 28, 2026, 16:00–17:30, the Color It Again! club turns the gallery into a crime scene. Young detectives follow the trail of a major painter: Lajos Tihanyi (Tihanyi Lajos). They’ll scrutinize dozens of his works to spot hidden details and piece together the puzzle. Alongside the investigation, they’ll get creative: forging paintings as part of the detective game, crafting a composite sketch, and experimenting with photo manipulation.
Kids join independently, without guardians. After each session, participants are guided back to the info desk between 17:30 and 17:40. Meeting point: information desk. Ages: 6–12. Max group: 15. Fee: 2500 HUF (about 6.93 USD). The Creative Studio announces new themes monthly with different activities each time, and sessions are standalone—drop in for any date that works.
Toddlers – Snowflake Dance
January 13 and January 27, 2026, 16:00–17:00. Bundle up in the softest gloves and warmest snow boots for a magical winter adventure in the National Gallery. Watch the forest turn white and discover all the colors hiding in snowy landscapes. Sing, tell stories, and dance with the snowflakes. Recommended ages: 2–4. Max group: 12 kids. Duration: 60 minutes.
Toddlers – Venetian Carnival
February 10, 2026, 16:00–17:00. Off to Venice, the Italian city of elegant masquerades and festive parades. Expect carefree fun: ride the carousel, dance, and try on different roles. To finish, make a lavish carnival mask to take home. Recommended ages: 2–4. Max group: 12 kids. Duration: 60 minutes.
