A new exhibition, A Little Budapest (Kis Budapest) – The City in Souvenirs, explores what urban souvenirs really mean today from the viewpoint of four creators. Open until August 31, the show shines a spotlight on Budapest, but not through the usual snow globes and fridge magnets you’ll find in tourist shops.
Not Your Average Souvenirs
Zita Majoros, Bálint Varga, Anna Szabó, and Krisztina Szalay take a personal and critical approach, questioning the very idea of city mementos. Their work is full of nostalgia, kitsch, and tongue-in-cheek references to the visual clichés of global tourism.
Humor and Irony Meet Reflection
Visitors will find plenty of humor and irony in the exhibits, but also a sharp examination of how we build the image of the city through keepsakes. The artists weave in sociocultural commentary, reflecting on what these small objects say about Budapest and those who take them home.
