when: 2026. March 4., Wednesday

The Virág Judit Gallery and Auction House is planning a packed 2026 with multiple auctions spotlighting standout works of classic and contemporary Hungarian painting and coveted Zsolnay ceramics. Bidding will be available in person, by phone, via absentee offers, and on the gallery’s own online platform.

Premiere opening: a once-in-a-generation reveal

On March 5 at 10:00, the venue at 1055 Budapest, 30 Falk Miksa Street (Falk Miksa utca 30), throws open its doors to the spring’s buzziest art moment. For the first time, Virág Judit and István Törő will unveil their private Art Nouveau Zsolnay collection—often called the world’s most expensive, rarest, and most beautiful Zsolnay ceramics. From March 6 to April 19, visitors can explore roughly 120 pieces at the Virág Judit Gallery, each the product of three decades of passionate collecting. Be among the first to see it and join collector István Törő’s exclusive guided tour. Art historian Anna Kelen from the gallery will deliver a short welcome, with refreshments and bites on hand. Time: March 5, 10:00. Venue: 1055 Budapest, 30 Falk Miksa Street (Falk Miksa utca 30).

The exhibition: the essence of Zsolnay, 1896–1914

Art Nouveau Zsolnay Masterpieces – The Collection of Virág Judit and István Törő runs daily from March 6 to April 19, 10:00–18:00. It presents a singular Zsolnay collection the couple has built over more than thirty years. While individual works have starred in themed Art Nouveau and Zsolnay shows before, the collection itself is debuting publicly now. The approximately 120 works come exclusively from Zsolnay’s golden Art Nouveau era, 1896–1914, curated with a strict eye for only the finest, most representative creations—the distilled essence of the Zsolnay manufactory. Alongside designs by members of the Zsolnay family, the show features works by the factory’s European-caliber ceramic artists.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe: calm gallery setting, easy 60–90 minute visit, snacks at the opening, and no age-restricted content
+
Internationally significant Art Nouveau ceramics—Zsolnay’s “world’s priciest/rarest” hype makes it a legit bucket-list art stop even if you’re not a hardcore ceramics nerd
+
Location is central Budapest (Falk Miksa utca 30, near Parliament), a well-trodden area for foreign visitors with lots of cafes and antique shops
+
No Hungarian required—staff at major Budapest galleries typically speak English; opening remarks and tours may include English summaries, and labels are often bilingual
+
Super easy to reach: a short walk from tram 2 or M2 Kossuth Lajos tér; rideshares and taxis are plentiful; street parking exists but paid
+
Good trip-timing: daily hours (10:00–18:00) from Mar 6–Apr 19 give flexibility around other Budapest must-sees (baths, Parliament, Danube cruise)
+
Compared to similar attractions abroad, it’s a rare, tightly curated deep-dive into a single top-tier Art Nouveau manufacturer—more focused than general art museums in Paris/Brussels/Vienna - Zsolnay isn’t a household name in the U.S., so casual travelers may not feel the “wow” without some pre-reading
Cons
Guided tours by the collector may be Hungarian-first; confirmed English tours aren’t guaranteed
Opening-day crowding and changing schedules could make it harder for families with small kids to linger
If you’re driving, central Budapest parking can be pricey and stressful during weekday business hours
