Budapest Zsilip Revives Epic Jewish Sunday School For Kids In 2026!

Budapest Zsilip revives Jewish Sunday School for kids 4-14 in 2026! Fun age-group activities, mitzvot, crafts, holidays & Bar
where: Budapest, 13. kerület, Újpesti rakpart 1.

Budapest’s beloved Zsilip center in the 13th district, at Újpesti rakpart 1, is bringing back the magic with the all-new Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School starting Sunday, April 12, 2026. Hundreds of kids who spent their Sunday mornings here years ago still rave about the shared games, playful learning, and unforgettable adventures. Now refreshed and ready, this Jewish study hall returns to the two-story playhouse packed with learning rooms. A young, enthusiastic team invites every kid and teen ages 4 to 14 (and even younger ones or those prepping for Bar/Bat Mitzvah) from 10:00 to 12:15 every Sunday. Split into age groups, they’ll prep for holidays together, dive into mitzvot, explore traditions, and soak up lifelong values—no matter if you’re a little one, a tween, or almost a young adult, this school’s made for you!

Age Groups and Fun Activities

The school runs in tailored age groups. For 4-6-year-olds, the Hullám-csoport (Wave group) bursts with excitement every Sunday: green-themed play, laughter, crafts, and storytelling that brings Jewish heroes to life. They discover, create stories, make crafts, and build a tight-knit community—all in a splash of green fun from 10:00-12:15. Next, 7-9-year-olds jump into creative chaos with Jewish tales, games, and super vibes starting in September. Expect tons of crafting, stories, play, and smiles as they meet new pals.

The 10-11-year-olds in the Yam-csoport (Sea group) form a real crew for building community, creating, playing, laughing, and exploring. Jewish stories, crafts, friendships, and joy overflow every Sunday from 10:00-12:15—the team’s pumped to share those mornings! For 12-13-year-olds, the Bar Mitzvah/Bat Mitzvah Club (BMC) kicks off with positive energy, laughs, and good times. Aimed at those stepping into adulthood, it covers becoming official community members through chats on Jewish values, traditions, personal questions, games, crafts, group discussions, experiences, creative challenges, and projects—all from 10:00-12:15.

Future Leaders Training

Finally, the MKZ group trains future madrichim (leaders) ages 3-14 every Sunday. They learn about leading by example, understanding children’s needs and development, and serving as guides—in a fun, Jewish atmosphere from 10:00-12:15.

Upcoming Dates in Budapest

Sessions run April 12, 19, 26; May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; and June 7, 2026—all in Budapest. Organizers reserve the right to change times and programs!

Pros
+
Super family-friendly with dedicated age groups from 4-14, packing in games, crafts, stories, and Jewish traditions that keep kids hooked for two hours every Sunday.
+
Just like the Sunday schools back home in the US, but with a fresh Hungarian vibe and that cool revival story—perfect for Jewish families traveling abroad.
+
Budapest's a hotspot for US tourists, so slotting this into your trip feels natural amid all the castles and baths.
+
No Hungarian needed? The welcoming vibe says it's open to every kid, and the fun-first approach might bridge any language gaps with play and visuals.
+
Easy peasy to reach by public transport—hop on the M3 metro to Újpest-Központ, then a quick walk or bus to Újpesti rakpart along the Danube.
+
Beats out generic kids' programs elsewhere by blending education with epic play in a two-story playhouse that's got that authentic local charm.
+
Builds real community and values in a short session, giving your kids memories and friends faster than most tourist traps.
Cons
Niche Jewish focus might not click for non-Jewish families, feeling more like a local cheder than a universal tourist draw.
Zsilip center in the 13th district isn't on most foreign radars—way less hyped than Buda Castle or the Jewish Quarter.
Likely runs in Hungarian with group names like Hullám-csoport, so without basics, your kids might miss the deeper stories and chats.
Kicks off in April 2026, so if you're not planning a spring trip that far out, it's a miss for spontaneous visits.
