Budapest’s iconic Gellért Bath and Hotel sits silent today, its glittering balls, wartime turns, wave-pool thrills, Gundel Restaurant nights, star guests, and legendary film shoots folded into memory. But has everyone really gone? For a brief evening, a playful time-travel performance with Imagine Budapest brings the building’s story back to life through a fictional chambermaid’s recollections, stitching together the hotel’s golden ages and darker hours.
Ghosts of Music, Steam, and Cinema
From the Gobelin Hall, music and dance steps echo again. Károly Gundel keeps setting fresh culinary creations on the table. Outside, a young woman dives into the wave pool, while actor Antal Páger calmly reads his paper in the lobby. In our mind’s eye, we wander glowing corridors, sip hot black coffee at the espresso bar, and stretch out in the fairy-tale thermal pools—guests once more, if only for a moment.
