Budapest’s iconic Gellért Bath and Hotel stands silent today, its grand balls, wartime chapters, wave pool roars, Gundel Restaurant delights, famous guests, and legendary film shoots now echoing from another era. But what if not everyone has left? Imagine Budapest invites you to a playful time-travel performance that briefly brings the building’s vibrant past back to life.
A maid’s memories unlock the eras
Through the recollections of an imaginary chambermaid, the hotel’s different ages flicker on. From the Gobelin Hall, music and dance steps drift out again; Károly Gundel keeps unveiling fresh culinary creations; outside, a young woman dives headfirst into the wave pool; in the lobby, actor Antal Páger quietly reads his newspaper. In our minds, we stroll along lit hotel corridors, sip strong black coffee at the espresso bar, stretch out in one of the fairytale thermal pools, and, for a little while, become guests of the house.
