Tickets are available online now for a family spectacle that turns a beloved tale into a vivid, modern coming-of-age journey, following two sisters on an otherworldly adventure of trials, choices, and growing up.

Dates, place, tickets

Shows run in Budapest on 2025.12.24., 2025.12.26–2025.12.28, and 2025.12.29–2025.12.31, at Állatkerti krt. 12/A, 1146. Organizers reserve the right to change times and program. Tickets: $59.50.

A story made personal

The creative team reshapes the original into a more intimate, contemporary narrative about two sisters learning what it really means to be siblings—accepting each other, differences and all—through dazzling circus choreography. The piece urges openness to others’ truths: observe them, understand them, find the good, make it your own, then stand up for your own. Attention and love that accept one another can make the world better.

Deep symbolism, big-scale thrills

Directed by Fekete Péter, “Holle anyó” is not just a kids’ fable; it carries rites-of-passage symbolism—stepping into adulthood, making independent moral choices, and recognizing the cosmic order of truth. Leading roles feature a Brazilian and a Russian acrobat, along with three Hungarian clowns, alongside Chinese, Uzbek, German, Hungarian, Russian, and Ukrainian artists; horses; village and exotic animals; and soaring songs performed by Jászai Mari and Kossuth Prize–winning actors.

Pros
+
Strong family vibe with a classic fairy tale reimagined through circus acts, so kids and adults both get plenty to enjoy
+
Multinational cast (Brazilian, Russian, Chinese, Uzbek, German, Hungarian, Ukrainian) gives it an international feel and high production value
+
“Mother Holle” (Grimm) is widely known in Europe, so the theme travels well even if you didn’t grow up with it in the U.S.
+
Central Budapest venue (Capital Circus by the City Park/Zoo) is easy to reach via Metro M1, trams, or rideshare; driving and parking are doable
+
No Hungarian required: visuals, acrobatics, and music carry the story, and ticketing is available online
+
Holiday dates make it a festive add-on to a Budapest winter trip, with multiple showtimes
+
Ticket price (~$60) is decent value compared to U.S. holiday spectacles and Cirque-style shows - “Mother Holle” isn’t as iconic in the U.S., so some symbolism and storyline beats may feel unfamiliar without context
Cons
Holiday week crowds can mean sold-out shows and tight seating; book early and arrive ahead of time
Animal acts may put off travelers who prefer animal-free circuses
Compared with top-tier Cirque du Soleil in the U.S., tech production may be less lavish, focusing more on traditional circus charm than cutting-edge effects
