Budapest’s open-air Margaret Island Open-Air Stage (Margitszigeti Szabadtéri Színpad) is rolling out a star-packed 2026 season with blockbuster productions, arena-worthy sound and visuals, and a broad mix of genres for locals and travelers. The Margaret Island Summer Festival (Margitsziget), the country’s longest and most colorful cultural marathon, runs from May to September with 70+ programs—mostly in-house premieres—aimed at every age group and taste.

July heats up with MESEMONDÓ – CARAMEL on 07.14; the operetta Victoria (Viktória) by Pál Ábrahám – Imre Földes – Imre Harmath on 07.17; family favorites Aranyszamár Puppet Theatre (Aranyszamár Bábszínház): Dumber Than a Donkey (Szamarabb a szamárnál) on 07.18 and Görbetükör Theatre (Görbetükör Színház): Mattie the Goose-boy (Lúdas Matyi) on 07.19; plus a Literary Walk – Island of Saints (Irodalmi séta – Szentek szigete) the same day. Giuseppe Verdi’s Il trovatore (A Trubadúr) premieres on 07.23 with exclusive Backstage Tour | Il trovatore on 07.23 and 07.25, flanked by Ákom-Bákom Puppet Group (Ákom-Bákom Bábcsoport): Three Hares (Három nyúl) on 07.25 and Literary Walk – Island of Survivors (Irodalmi séta – A túlélők szigete) on 07.26.
