Budapest’s oldest synagogue doubles as a powerful symbol of Hungary’s Jewish community bouncing back to life. Community members here aren’t settling for less than Óbuda’s rich history demands—they’re sketching a fresh Jewish identity for the neighborhood, one that long faded into obscurity since the socialist era. Nestled at 1036 Budapest, 3rd District (Óbuda), Lajos utca 163, this spot pulses with energy for families diving into their heritage.
Weekly KiddieTime Takeover
Every Wednesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m., KiddieTime turns Óbuda afternoons into kid central for ages 3 to 10. Think music, learning, play, and movement—all wrapped in Jewish vibes. Tailored by age groups, the program splits into three parts: kids and parents kick off with a joint musical session, then children dive into fun Judaism lessons while moms and dads attend a Hebrew language course. Parents rejoin for Krav Maga to wrap it up with a bang. Catch it on these dates: April 8, 15, 22, 29; May 6, 13, 20, 27; and June 3, all in 2026 at the Óbuda Synagogue.
